SCAM ARTISTS ABOUT!!
« on: June 12, 2007, 09:22:06 pm »
I would like to let everyone know that there are a couple of scam artists operating in the North East that are selling Window cleaning rounds that are completely fabricated. I fell for the scam and bought a fabricated round in Belmont in Durham.  It was a couple who advertised in the Yellow Ad Trader about 2 months ago.  They used pay as you go vodaphone sim cards and the girl met me on the round in durham where the girl (Kelly) small and blond haired showed me round a made up list of customers and managed to convince me that her boyfriend was working away down in Hull and was desperate to sell the round.  They obviously had window cleaning experience as they had a window cleaning book wrote out with people who owed etc for the last 12 months.  They even had different prices on the list for people who had there sills cleaned etc.  I asked if I could knock on some customers doors to verify the round but the guy (jon) who the girl foned said he would only do that if he was there which I could sort of understand.  He asked me to leave a £300 deposit and he would come out and work the round with me the following saturday at which point I was convinced and said it didnt matter and handed the £700 full amount over.  I went back th following saturday and quickly realized something was wrong.  The numbers on the list either didnt have a window cleaner or the majority had an old guy called john who had cleaned them for over 20 years.  I went round most of the list to make sure that I had definitely been scammed and I had!
I didnt think I was easily scammable but they managed it.  I'l never get my money back but just hope I can help other people not to fall for the same scam.

Id also be interested to here if anyone else has had a similar experience as i would love to catch them!

Hi Matthew,

Contact the Yellow Pages that placed the advert, they will have the details on file. Ask for the details of who placed the advert. Explain what has happened and if they won't release the details involve the police and get the police to call the Yellow Pages.

The police will deal with it as this is FRAUD and illeagal!!

Unfortunately the mobile sim cards are probably long since binned as when I tried to fone them they were both unavailable!  I am going to let the yellow paper know it might help other people, the only reason I haven't done a lot about it is I knew I wouldn't get money back anyway and just wanted to move on from it and not let it stop me building up my round.  Thanks for the coments

little tips from someone that sells rounds: always go and meet customers, never hand over money untill you have done this. I sold a part of my round to a guy that had never met me less that 2 months ago, what i did is met him, gave a list on customers then took him round every house, if they where not it he saw, the ones that were in a spoke to in front of him. Dont be put of by buying a window cleaning round, just use common sence, would you call someone on a mobile number with no trac trackable address and give them £££ is cash, I would not do this, I am honest in the way I do business, yes there are scammers out there but this does not mean there are not normal people selling an honest round.
