hi there,
you need to check the law, with regard to unsolicited email.
the law changed, about unsolicited email, from companies within europe.
thats why a lot of junk email comes from america, as its not covered.

Surely its acceptable to send a personally addressed email to a potential customer? whats the difference with this and a flier through there letter box?
Its a shame if small bussineses cant utilise modern technology to save on marketing costs.
Spent £40 on stamps today

the problem was that spam junk email was getting out of hand, and the subject matter, was not generally about carpet cleaning.

Not sure about it myself.
But why not.
Holiday companies send me stuff all the time.
If you do not like marketing you should not be in bussiness.

Ian,
Go to Google type in "hotels in east Anglia" or "hotels""east anglia" (with "marks) sure you will find lots of lists of hotels with links to relevant websites-find the contact us button, cut and paste details into a notepad doc including name of manager ect.
Make your letter template personal (mention the name of the hotel in the text) and open with dear mr XXXX.
I'd personally consider this as a sort of direct mail, rather than a leaflet shot or Spam.

Len,
I've removed said post...
... but am intrigued as to why one can't use yell.com for looking up the names and addresses of hotels in a given area. Is it a copyright issue...I have a friend that told me that the system won't allow people to cut and paste the text from their pages.

I run into this problem with the Bussiness Aquaintance who publishes our local directory.
He tells me that the data in it is his.
HHowever if I cross reference the info with other sources I cannot be infringing his or anybody elses copyright can I.
Regretably I did not finnish my Law Degree.

I don’t need to cut and paste have a friend in Spain who dose it for me, only one problem its in Spanish, and the wife translates it, I wonder if this contravenes British law.

Yellow Pages have a certain number of dummy entries that they monitor. I you contact them for sales and not purchasing purposes it goes to Yell and they land like a ton of bricks.
