Russ, beleive me it is a scam. I used to work in the industry, its not run or controlled by the police. im not going into the politics of it on here, but beleive me, its a scam.

Vardis btw, was investigated by the daily mirror a couple of weeks ago, and the owner used to own barrington house in ormskirk.

James E James in liverpool have the publications for the emergency services, and there main office is in dale street, with another in warrington just of off bewsey lane!

A "publishers" called fullertons, was investigated by the manchester evening news about 4 yrs ago. The owners were both given 5 yrs, and where earning 2.5k per week!

I remember it well cos all the staff that had to leave there came and worked for me!!  was happy days then..lol

But anyone who is contacted by any "charity" selling ads, dont do it. Other offices ask for the diaries or wallplanners that the other charities sent them, pay for a courier to pick them up (we used to spend around £500 on courier pick ups for our leads per month) then call the advertisers saying.......

"Do you remember we spoke and you said you where helping the ..... charity? > you said to give you a call back in a couple of months and said you would be more than happy to help the kids in ....(our) charity!!!

So there you go, buyer beware!!!

This will go on forever and a day!!

it certainly doesnt sound like a scam, but my sussex police diary doesnt have ads in it, it just has the unions number.

and yeah ive also noticed that a few people on here enjoy slaggin off the police, most of the time i cant even be bothered to argue.

Mick,
I had this happen to me couple of weeks ago, saying what you stated, I knew I hadn't said anything of the sort, and I know my boss wouldn't have said it, so straight away I knew it was a scam.
I can't print on the forum what I said to the bloke on the other end, but my last word was off and I then hung up. ::)

I was only going for the Police Diary, for the extra little advertising and to help the police widows.

Wake up lads! There are dozens of these companies nearly all based in either Manchester or Liverpool for some reason. They are scamsters who run a variety of schemes most of which never come to fruition, firemens benevolent fund, police diaries as mentioned, fire safety booklets for local schools etc etc etc.
Don't waste your hard earned money. Stick to established advertising methods and don't waste your money. This also goes for pub/restuarant menus, estate agent guide books, european city guides, council planning brochures. They are all crap and you'd be lucky to get a few leads off any of them.

It is not a scam
There are lots of people on hear that appear very Anti- Police
Why Is That ??
There are not enough of them to do the job properly and it is all
down to money and politics.
I am not interested in the politics as it bores the pants off me.
My view is that all politicians are as bad as each other-they just have different reasons.
The Diaries are standard for most Police Forces and the advertising is genuine and have local companies for that area.
I am not saying they are a good idea for shiners to advertise in (I don't)
but they are certainly NOT A SCAM!
but it does grip me when it turns into a Police slagging off
when really it has very little to do with the state of our Police Forces.
Trust me I know!
Whinge over

I've no problem with honest cops.  Only with dishonest ones.  Like you say, the advertising offered isn't a scam.  I do have reservations about how widely read it might be though and therefore would probably be a poor way to advertise.
PS.  I've seen some pretty disgraceful things done by police and I've seen good things done too.
