Injuries caused using wfp

I have recently spoke to trad wc & he says that having spoke to other wfp users it has put him off through injuries they have recieved. Mainly back strain. I pointed out that only misuse or cheap heavy glass fibre poles would cause this.

He then watched walk up ladder against gutter & step off onto sloping tiled roof to clean first floor windows in the rain. I am not going to through what could happen now but it seemed that others have misinformed him to go against pole. Also the work was for a large builder & the h&s would have a field day if anything happened, but his job would be so much easier using wfp frames fascia gutter & glass all done in one.

The main reason for this is the fact that i have had & still do have back problem arthritus of the spine, but wfp i can do all day everyday with out a problem & i also have a h&s report about others using wfp that have had previous back problems finding it ok. i personally struggle bending & picking up, i have to do it all properly from your knees.

Any feedback most welcome.

I've got muscular arthritis in my lower back from breaking it years ago.

I went wfp 2 months ago, and in the last two weeks my back has got really bad.

If I get up off this computer chair I won't be able to stand up fully for a minute.
I played darts at the pub earlier, and it was a nightmare if I had a bounceout because I struggled to bend down to pick it up. :-\

Agony...and I use a carbon Superlight with virtually no weight.

Seriousely, I used to suffer from a bad back.  Couldn't put me socks on first thing :o
Now, after a year using the Backpack I very rarely get a twinge :D.

The trick is......Not to lift the thing :o ::)

That`s why i use one daily,if i used to look at a fiberglass pole it would make my shoulders ache.Now if i have an ache from time to time it`s the movement of using the pole over a long period ie if i`m doing pole work for say 3-4 hours at a time i`ll get slight ache in my shoulders,but like i say it`s the movement because like squeaky says the superlite poles don`t weigh anything,but i would say that using the heavier poles ie fiberglass or even the bigger carbon poles could lead to injury.Even an 18-24ft fiberglass pole gets hevier house by house.

It`s worth going to a good oseopath,i used to think it was my back itself that was giving me greive but it was actually the muscles that were knotted that was the problem,when muscles get knotted up it can give you pains that you would swear are coming from the spinal area,more often than not a deep massage once a week for a month will make a huge difference in a lot of cases.

I switched to wfp because of injurys i had. The first 6 months was hard going mainly because your using different muscles. 18 months on i feel so much better, i feel 10 years younger now.

4 out of 5 positive feedback. It is down to equipment & training to utilize wfp to its best. I invested nearly 5 years ago & not looked back, pardon the pun, i,ve now stopped all grounds maintenance contracts & rarely clean carpets, when i do any carpet cleaning i have to have pain killers after & am stiff as a board.

I still enjoy trad on ground floor & internals. Most of our work is int & ext on offices, so we still do a lot of trad, probably more than some trad only. But for safety & ease of work i would recommend wfp to all, hopefully the guy i spoke to will go away & think again.

Sorry to hear that you still have problems squeeky, perhaps you could see somebody who could define your method of work to injury better physio or oesteopath etc.

I did my knee in feb aswell, still at work mind but have to have physio every week, torn & twisted crucia ligament, would have struggled trad on ladder, so theres another thing people with knee problems.
