Just got asked if we can supply RO water to fill a tropical fish tank, does anyone do this and if so does it need to be taken off before the DI tank

Have looked into this and don't DI the water because it will poison the fish.
Although the aquatic places sell RO water I do believe they also add certain things to the water before selling it on.

I give one of my customers 25 ltr every time i see them before Di about 30ppm . hes paying £10 for 25ltr at 60ppm from his supplier  .

I dont think they add anything to the water , its just to stop the build up of calcium in the tank as the water evaporates

I originally got an ro for my fish tank.  It takes the nitrates and phosphates out.  It depends what the water is to be used for.  If it's top up water then ro water is what you need.  If it's water to fill a marine tank (salt water) then you need ro water + RO adjuster to put back in the needed minerals and then salt.  I wouldn't advise taking anything like that in you window cleaning tanks.

If some one wants the water off of you then just give them the ro water.  Fish shops sell this at about 15p a liter and that's at 10ppm tds.

I always use my pure water water. They love it.  Does them no harm. Thje goldfish like it too.

I don't add any thing. You must remember that it is acidic so alkaline water fish might not get on. However, I have a mix with no ill effects.

Correct about the top-up water, but not about water for a marine tank.

You do NOT need to add any adjuster for that at all, you add ALL that is needed in the water when you add the salt to the R.O. water and nothing else.

Here's picture of the ro adjuster I use.  I was told by my local fish shop wet pets that you need to put this back into ro water for marine aquariums when mixing up salt, as the salt is designed to be mixed with tap water not ro water, you need to re-mineralize it so to speak.  I could be wrong though I'm only going on what I've been told and sold although the shop I use is quite good.

If a customer was to ask me for water I would only ever give ro water though never a salt mix leave that to them.  Just give them RO not DI RO will be good for it and save you the money on the DI.

Simon, I very very rarely trust the word of commercial outlets, theyre there to sell no other reason.

Try this forum http://www.ultimatereef.net/forums/ the guys on there have no other alterior motive as opposed to a shop whos owner is trying to make a living.

Think about it though, RO water is pure H20, which is what sea-water is but with the elements and minerals, so to achieve sea-water status you add ONLY what has been removed and nothing else.

If you check your RO water, which hasnt been through DI then you'll find it'll still want for some polishing, it'll probably still be at 10ppm+, so still worth using DI IMO.
