how do you cope?
« on: May 19, 2007, 04:43:27 pm »
Any of you had a hard time of a custy. I had my worst day ever on Thursday and it's still bugging me.
I have never had any complaints over the 6 months I've been doing this job..until a friend said she'd like to earn a bit of cash. I have almost no time free anymore as I have to work around schooltimes so when a lady said she was desperate as her Polish girl had gone home I said if I worked with the afore  mentioned  friend I could give her 4 hours between us, anyway the day dawned and one hour to go friend sends a text saying she's ill....I turned up on my own and apologised profusely to the daughter as her mum had gone to a meeting. She gave me 2 sheets of A4 jobs to do so I said I would do what I could in 2 and a half hours she said that should be ok...well I worked my socks of to get as much done off the list as I could but later that evening I had a phone call off the woman saying the work was sub standard and I hadn't done this that and the other and would not be able to recomend me to her friends...I tried to explain that I was on my own because other woman wasn't feeling wll to which she replied it wasn't her problem which of course it wasn't, she went on to say she wouldn't pay for 4 hours so i told her of course not I was only there for a 2 & half. I understand her disappointment but it was her rudeness that bugged me especially as she runs a business thats supposed to help small business'. Anyway it's been eating away at me all weekend so wanted to know how any of you cope.

I know its not easy but try not to take it personally. On the domestic side there are some people who are never going to be satisfied because no matter how good you do it, it will not be done the way that they would do and therefore (in their eyes) its not good enough.

We have a few like this over the years and we just say sorry that we aren't able to meet your requirements and move on. There are plenty of other potential customers out there.

We had one where there were some issues because of the staff member missed some things and the customer complained so I said fair enough no charge, money back we will do it again next week with more experienced staff and if thats acceptable you can pay us then. My missus who is the best cleaner in the world! went and minted the place, spent extra time etc and the cow never paid.

So as long as you know you have done your best, just get over it.

It gets a bit trickier when you grow  and other people are doing the cleaning for you. You get a phone call  but because you weren't there you don't know which version is true.

Life is too short
