Hi all i do car valeting occasionally and one of my regulars has a 1970 merc with mildew on the vinyl seats and all over the dash etc , when the owner has wiped it off it has returned. the car has been in a damp garage for a year. Ive tested some clover chems on it and it came off fine...but will it return??   many thanks in advance,

The mildew you can see is only the fruiting bodies, the roots (myceleum) are actually growing in the fabric. Two things you need to do. Kill the fungus with a suitable product such as Prochems Microsan. Secondly the fungus only grew because of damp conditions. These need to be rectified to prevent repetitive problems.

thanks john..ive got plenty of microsan ..how should i apply it to vinyl seats? just with a cloth? do you think it wiil effectively solve the prob on the carpets too? ( i will be using ninja)

If the problem persists, an ozone generator set up properly will kill mold.

You have to be carefull with Ozone in cars as it can degrade rubber seals around doors etc. It will kill the mould but must be used for limited periods.
The seats and carpets should respond well to Microsan however the seats may need a few treatments. The dampness problem is the most important to rectify but that may be down to the owner.

make sure you don't spread the mould. This can be done during the cleaning proces.Change the cloth for each seat, otherwise the type of mould from one seat may affect another.
