Strange stuff, MicroFibre - you need to moisten it to dry windows!

I use two - one for buffing and one for wiping up (sill cloth) and so I don't get them mixed up, I have them in different colours in a twin pouch - hopefully fool-proof, but . . .

The buffup cloth gets a light misting from a trigger bottle with water and GG3, with occasional top-ups, and the sill cloth just gets used dry to start with and gets wrung out every so often.

I know I used to just hang up a clean, but used, finishing scrim and it would be OK the next day, but you really need to wash/rinse the "dry" microfibre after a day's use, as it holds so much dirt.  You must wash microfibre cloths by themselves, (not individually, just ALL microfibre cloths together) don't use detergent, and definitely NOT any type of conditioner - this seems to clog the poor little microfibres up and renders them useless for wiping up properly.

For anyone who just can't see past scrim, I've got half a bale of the stuff bought direct from Ulster Weaving Co which is now surplus to requirements. From my last visit to their site, it now looks like they don't produce window cleaning scrim any longer, I know when I bought it they weren't still producing the grade I'd bought from them previously - buy yourself a piece of heritage, snap it up quick. Ideal heirloom for a family window-cleaning business!

I bought some microfible cloths made by unger and some gg4 this week, I got on really well with the gg4
but had problems with the microcloths. whenever I tried to detail with the cloths (damp as described above) they would leave a smear and had to revert to a scrim to finish the day. However I did find them remarkable for cleaning painted frames they really pick up the dirt!
can anybody explain why this is happening because it is baffling me to death. I washed them last night (first time as I used them straight from the box)to see if this would help but it's raining at the moment so I will have to wait and see.
Any help most appreciated

You're probably best to wash them two or three times to get the newness out of them - but DON'T boil them like new scrims! I think they'll take a 90o machine wash though.

They'll maybe surprise you when you use them again after that and behave themselves. Are you using the large or small? I just can't be bothered with the small face-cloth things but I have to say I prefer the large Ungers as the best finishing "scrim" out of the three types I've used. Give them a light misting with plain water or a mix with GG3-4 and then scrunch them up to disperse the dampness throughout the whole cloth and then flap it even drier. Should work for you then.

What is MICROFIBRE?

Microfibre is the perfect blend of polyester and polyamide.  The fibre is 1/100th the size of a strand of human hair.  When this microfibre is combined with the right knitting process it creates an extremely effective cleaning material.  The material can hold up to seven times in weight in dirt and water, unlike many other types of cloth that smear dirt across the surface you are trying to clean. Microfibre cloths act like bionic sponges, removing dirt and bacteria, leaving you with a clean, highly polished surface.

What are the benefits of MICROFIBRE cleaning?

Microfibre cloths are environmentally friendly.   This can make a big difference for anyone with allergies and chemical sensitivities.  In important areas like bathrooms and kitchens, microfibre cloths can remove up to 99% of bacteria from surfaces, resulting in a cleaner, healthier environment.  Microfibre cloths are highly durable.  They are widely used in commercial cleaning environments and can withstand the rigours of everyday usage.

How is the MICROFIBRE CLOTH used?

Microfibre cloths can be used wet or dry.  Dry Cloth: The static effect, when used dry, enhances the ability of the cloth to attract dirt and dust particles.  As you lightly wipe the surface, the microfibre attracts and draws up even the smallest particles of dust.  Wet Cloth: The fibres work together to give an excellent cleaning effect.  Moisten with clean water and wipe away grease and impurities from all washable surfaces.
