I am interested in getting involved in the abseiling side of window cleaning/general cleaning, does anyone have experience of this and contact details of relevant organisations?

i am aware insurance can be quite pricey!

Any information would be great.

I thought about this but I would have to do the level 1 training course then clock up a thousand work hours with a level 3 before I can go for level 2 and so on till level three.

This is just imposible for me too do as I run my own business and can't aford to have a week of to go work for someone else to clock up my hours !! I also don't have enough abseiling work to do myself to make it pay plus I wouldn't be able to do it myself as I would need to hire a level 3 to assist and becuase you have to work in a pairs as a mnimum.

So all in all I would like to do it but just can't see away round working/training

I think it's possible to get the company who you are doing the work for to sign your hours off....... The IRATA thing is a definate old boys club as they make things nearly impossible to reach the upper levels. And you don't have to be IRATA trained to abseil, it's not the law you just have to be trained.

Does the IRATA level 1 enable you to abseil then, or do you have to go onto the other levels first, i have had a look on websites related to this but there are no clear cut answers!
I would be looking to sub-contract to a large company for maybe a week a month.

Yes you can abseil at level 1, but some companies may require you to have a level 3 on site acting as supervisor. Depends on who you are doing work for.

It's common to have a team of 4 abseilers - 3 at level 1 and the other a level 3. It works out the most cost effective way to do a job as level 3 can demand more money.

i don't like talking about money but do you know what a level 1 can earn for an average day or does that go on job size, difficulty etc

Level 1 usally earn from £120 a day upwards (in a team), level 3 is anything from £250 - £350 upwards depending on what job, etc.
