Contract Cleaning & termination thereof
« on: May 02, 2007, 07:51:57 pm »
Some advice pls.  I am three mths into a yearly written contract for cleaning a residential property with an agent to carry out communal services. The client called me today to inform me that their clients have moved out therefore they no longer require my services.    They now say the property needs redecorating and it may take them a while before a new tenant moves in.

What do you think I should do?  Do you think  they should honour their contract?  or shall I knock this one on the head.  Afterall its not my fault their clients have moved out early.

hi there

the strong arm way would be to pursue!!

the better way may b to negotiate a settlement.  explain that you have resources for this job, and therefore you have a cost to bear.

is there a termination clause in the contract ???

if you retreat with a negotiated settlement, you maybe able to get further work from this client

regards

martin

Hi Martin,

Thanks for your comment.  Much appreciated.  ;

The only clause in the contract is that it can be terminated by a four weeks notice period if works are not of a satisfactory standard.

I came to the same conclusion that I should not pursue the contract with the hope that there maybe further works.  Nonetheless it is so hard to let go when it is your wages just gone done the pan for the next 9 months.
