had a good one yesterday (WFP)
« on: April 26, 2007, 07:08:05 am »
went to a house yesterday which is a bit of a pain because you have to knock to get round the back then go down the back of 3 houses with the hose, which isnt all that fun as im sure you all know lol

anyway, did the back for them, locked the gates all up, went to the front and a old lady came out, hadnt ever seen her before just a old man

"have you done the backs"
"yes"
"theyre dripping wet"
here we go
"yes that right i use pure water and they dry clear"
looks at me like im lieing
"well can you go and dry them"
"they dry clear"
she closes the door and goes off in a huff
did the fronts and then finshed next doors fronts
knock knock
"youve never finished"
"yes all done"
"but theyre dripping wet"
dear me... explained to her about pure water and that if she wants to find someone else that fine, but there isnt many people who do it traditinally round here.
"well we want someone to polish them"
had enough by then
"look ill give you my number any problems ill come back"
now you must understand that i have been here FOUR times and theyve never said anything. they still seemed annoyed at me

drives me insane to be honest, 8 stinking quid! i struggle down the alley way and do a brilliant job and clean all the frames...and still they arent happy...its ok ill spend £4k for yours and my safety and you moan about giving me £8 thats right

ahhhhhh rant over...and to be honest i probably wont go back! ha that'll learn em  ;D

you could do my old stunt  -promise them that the next clean is free - then next time just attach the pole straight ito their garden hose and wash the windows with it!!

works a treat, fastest way of getting rid of customers I know of!

Just stick with it lads

Get rid of the ones who might moan , theywill spoil your day,

Believe me i was in the same boat , i hated going to work in the end , but now no going back.

My ladders never come off now and if the customers dont like it , they can find someone else.

My customers have all excepted it now and i dont even bother to explain to new customers.

just act like its the norm and you know what you are doing, you will soon win them over, well 95% of them anyway

the worst is when you have cleaned them for months with WFP while they are out at work...they come home...windows perfect...envelope on the mat...send you a cheque...happy as Larry.

Then they are home one day and see you cleaning WFP and leaving the windows wet ...then the conversation detailed above starts...!!!

I love it when they are all out at work... ;D

I have found that telling customers that I use Pure Water just goes over their heads and they haven't a clue what I'm talking about, instead I tell them that if I use tap water then their windows will streak and spot terribly so I now use Distilled Water which cleans the glass more effectively than tap water and it should be left wet so the coating of distilled water can protect the glass from be coming dirtier quicker than normal.

Squeaky

Your customers must be all mixed up by now because for the last few years you have rubbished the concept that wfp cleaning can clean windows, instead you have told your customers that the only way to clean a window is to use a ladder, bucket of water and a squeegee.

Now you turn up with the Devils Tool and the customers are horrified. ;D

Squeaky - have you given them all an explanatory leaflet? It helps.

i used to be worried about what customers would say but recently have decided that no way am i going up a ladder again after another foot injury
now if they dont like it i politley tell them of my foot situation and tell them other trad window cleaners are around if they want
i have had to become a little bit more hard nosed about it for my own health
it is only a window after all

Did you slag Wfp to your customers before you switched? You had strong views on it so maybe they are going by that.

I had a cracker today.

Turned up to a house and started explaining things to the bloke.
He interrupted me and said "Ah, no more ladders!"
"I wasn't too happy with that anyway, as I used to work in H&S, and you're not really supposed to be doing that"
"My office is done with the pole, and it's great"
"Go ahead, carry on!"

Wish all customers were like that... ;D

more and more people are learning or hearing about it

soon enough no one will ask

i dont even explain myself to my new customers, and anyway, they have come to me to clean their windows, not to tell me HOW to clean their windows

I had a customer who started telling ME about the properties of pure water.  Turned out that his profession is to do with some aspect of water purification.
