Well I suppose the only way is to try it and see if it works OK. Nothing lost except a bit of time and a piece of paper. The jpegs I have used in PDF have seemed OK on their own but I've no idea how .wmf or .bmp would fare.
ah thats the problem shiner, i think we may have to agree to disagree on this one. i have some good experience in print and when you print on paper from a printer doesn't give you a true guide of what may/will print to film/plates.
If your not after a perfect peice of artwork then you will probably get away with converting word files and what not but it really isn't good practice from the experience i've had. I really can't be bothered to bang on about it anymore. just sharing with you my knowledge.
as for .BPM need to saved down at 1200dpi to try and gain any real smooth edge other wise it will be jagged and pixelated to f**k
