BUILT TO SPEC TRIPLEX DIAPHRAGM PUMP
« on: April 11, 2007, 05:08:31 pm »
Been having a chat with a very helpful guy called Stephen Goodway at a company called michael smith engineers about a special pump. A triplex diaphragm    NOT PISTON.
One of the many apparent benefits is that it can run dry without damage and handle small solids in solution without damage.
http://www.michael-smith-engineers.co.uk/hydracelldocs/hydracell.htm
After enquiring as to what flow rate, psi and drive method I was after he discussed a few options such as diaphragm materials and head materials he said he'll call me in the morning with the plan, the cost and the weight (the body is cast iron) :'(

Anyone seen or had any experience of these pumps before. They look bomb proof.

too heavy, too big,  too expensive, too much power draw .... i don't think I've missed anything. if it was possible to use it for carpet cleaning someone would already be using it.

solids in the solution isn't a big problem just use an in-line filter before the pump.

I'm getting mine next month :o   WHY?
I was looking at a pumptec 1200psi for £400. It weighs in at 60 lbs, draws nearly 1.5 kw an aluminium head and will take woodbridge a lifetime to get it here from the states.

The pump I'm having made is also 1200psi weighs in at 44 lbs, because its powered by a four pole motor it does use up almost 3 kw on startup but then settles down to 1.1 kw, it has a brass head (harder than ally), contains no seals of any description and will be ready 10 days from order.
Downside ... £1150. But hey it different and I'm told I'll never wear it out!

For the mo I'm dropping it in my Ninja. It's something like 20cm x 26cm x 50cm inc. motor.

Think it might go straight through the bottom!!!!!!!!!!great to see someone experimenting, something I used to do years ago, but happy to leave it to a new generation.

Derek at Ashby's is messing around with 1000 psi pump modification to the Ninja. I think he's having a bit of a nightmare though, it's been months now.
But I have a cunning plan ;D
