Hi,

Customer got a problem, she spilt some cranberry juice on cream wool carpet, then she went and got a natural sponge put bicarbinate of soda on stain and rubbed, it must have reacted with the sponge as the yellow from the sponge came out all over the carpet, apparently looks trerrible, worst than just the juice stain,

she said this sponge she had years its never bleed the colour out before,

any suggestions on removing this, im thinking yellow dye stain, un removable

??

Safeclean used natural sponges for years, in their unique system, so I suspect the sponge has been contaminated.................but it's unlikely you will discover the source.

Or............you may be experiencing cellullistic browning, which is much easier to deal with. Talk to your local Prochem or other supplier about a " browning solution " and follow the instructions

Sponges are animal, not vegetable, so it may be protein rather than cellulosic, but I stand to be corrected on that.

As with wool, it would be wise to be cautious with alkalis on the sponge. The yellow may be an added dye. I visited a sponge harvester/factory once in Crete and they dyed their sponges yellow. I have natural sponges that are a natural, undyed, brown colour.  Bicarbonate of Soda is alkali, so this may have been the problem.

I'd never say never, but would presume that it's more likely to have brown staining wicking up from the backing.

Inspect carefully and find an area that has the length of the tuft yarn only partially stained. If it's stained at the top but not the bottom then it's probably from the sponge. If there's staining at the bottom but not the top, then it will be from the backing.  The main area of staining will be for the whole length of the tuft.

PS To attack this stain, subject to testing, try some bi-carb. Otherwise it will be down to oxydising or reducing agents,

hi, it was just on top the pile so it was from the sponge, and yes your right Ken only the oxibrite would touch it, improving the stain slowly, lightening it, by the time i left 60% gone, left some oxi on there to do its work  so may improve more yet,
