Hi

I want to sell more protector, and thinking of pro mite as it gives the customer an added benifit, or another reason to have the stuff put down.

Whats peoples experiences of this product, does it sell easier than standard protector?

do customers buy into the concept?

do you sell alot?

is it profitable?

thanks Craig.

Yes its profitable as it only adds 5minutes to the total job.

Most clients buy it as a carpet protector more so than the allergy side of it, but as you say its a added benifit and you get the odd couple of extra sales.

probley sell it to 1 in 3 or 1 in 4 clients

Hi Dan,

think i'll give it a go soon as i got rid of my repel and protect, i see they got a website just for pro mite www.promite.co.uk doesnt appear to be finished though.

i like the healthy home leaflet, real smart! shame its not selling promite more as it seems more geared to healthy home maintainence plan.

Steve Saunders was on here yesterday perhaps he could give out some tips on selling the stuff.

As long as it does not become a regular promotional campain

So is advertising ok under certain circumstances?

We have had information on Leather and Leather Training. Truckmounts etc

As long as it was a one off I see no harm

But I doubt if it would happen.

how much do you charge for protector, half the price of the cleaning of the room, the same as the price of the clean, or do you charge more than that?

how do you pitch it to the customer? you seem quite succesful at selling it! are you using sales aids to help?

Neil,

does that work, do you then get asked?

is it the A5 booklet you send or just the leaflet?

Craig

I send the booklet but also give them the package descriptions for each diiferent type of clean, Full Service, Premium Clean.

By giving them this in advance in puts it into their mind to get it done. I never push the sale of protector but find it better for them to make their mind up.

cheers

John at this moment in time i am charging +33% for protector

I use a very non pushy sales technique, when i give the quote i simply write the price with protector on the sheet and tell them that this is another service we offer but ask them not to make there minds up yet but to wait and see how the clean comes up.

I tell them basically not to commit as this stage but if the carpets come up better than they expected they would be mad not to have it, then all you gotta do is make sure you do a good job and if they are happy they will ask for it.

I also make a point of telling them its not bulletproof and its a help as opposed to a solution. I say to them imagine you have two sheets of paper and you laminate one, you can still rip it, mark it, burn it etc but one sheet will be a lot tougher than the other and you will be able to wipe things of the laminated one, this is what protector will do for your carpet.

What you charge for protector must bear some relation to the cost of the product.

As a retailer I work on How much Product Costs me. plus production cost

What Mark up do I requre  say 100%

What is my Grodd Profit  = 50%

I actively promote protector on each appropriate job. Probably get 1-2 out of 5. It's a no brainer for the sake of sitting down and thinking trhough how they will benefit from it and the hassle of spills if they don't.

I find the right timing is helpful. Don't bring it up till you start and they see how good it's coming up. I work out 80% of the clean price and quote this then say discounting to 50%.

As they are processing this tell them it has to be done before the carpet is dry.
When they say yes ok then, I lay it all out for them. How it's not perfect but it helps alot. I do a couple of further check backs which means they will not regret their decision later and everyone's happy.

Hi guys,
For some of you who sell protector there is something i don't understand. If you are selling it at only 50% or less then the actual clean are you actually making any money from it? how much is it costing you per sq ft? I think one protector i come across back along was something like 12p per sq ft so if you were charging say 25p a sq ft for the clean, but only charging 50% extra for the protection then surely you would only just be making this money back. Please explain someone maybe i have got my figures wrong.

The Saunders bros have good presentation materials, which sells the product while you clean.........I would assume they have updated everything onto DVDformat by now.

Matt

I use Craftex protector and it's good value. It's DuPont Teflon based. A through lounge can be anything from £75 to £90 plus protector. if you are charging £40 for a lounge dinner then just say it's £40 to protect. At half the clean price yes you would struggle a bit.

So if i am right then why do so many people offer protection at half the price of the clean it seems stupid to me they are not even charging anything for this.
