Mirror glass
« on: March 15, 2007, 05:12:08 pm »
Hi Lads

Just had a commercial job over here in Joburg which had mirror glass
Really battled to get certain panels clean with pure water.
Ended up using the telescopic pole with mop, then rinsed with pure water.
The glass hadnt been cleaned in 3 years.
It was 30c when we did the job, would this add to the problem as the glass
was very hot?

Any advice will be welcome has there are many buildings like this over here.

Thanx

Colin

Colin, we deal with a lot of mirror glass and warm weather in the US and while the heat doesn't make it easier the sun can make it impossible whether doing trad or wfp
What we would do assuming its an all day job is start at the side thats not in the sun in the morning and work back until you meet the sun coming the other way then start again next to where you started in the morning and follow the sun until you get to where you finished going the other way
If this is not possible then if you can use warm water as it will not evaporate as fast as cold water on hot glass

Hi Colin,

I am with Pat on this, I clean mirror glass on a few contracts in the uk, when it gets hot in the summer ,not as hot as 30 c it does cause probs. Never used hot water in hot conditions, will give it a go Pat  if we ever get any hot weather.
I tend to use cold water which gives a slightly longer working time,IMO.
I trad these cos the seals are not that good to wfp these.
Good luck mate !

Regards
Adam :) :)

Asboss, I have no technical reasoning to tell you for using warm water except that when you put cold water on a hot window it starts to steam off immediately and when you use warm(not hot) water it doesn't seem to evaporate as fast
It could be all in my head but it works for me

 Thanks for the info guys.

The water in the van must be 35c so im not using very cold water
but I have to say when the water was on the glass it did seem
to react differently.
Also have to say that the problem area was north facing the glass was that
hot that I couldnt place my hand on it.
By the way its been 30c constantly for 4 months nowive never known it like
this in 23 years.  8)
Yes Joburg is Johannesburg, crime capital of the world but with glass galore
domestic and commercial.

Thanks again

Hot water cleans very large/ large hot panes of glass better than cold water!
