best and worst brushes and why
« on: March 15, 2007, 05:03:15 pm »
hi, tried a few different brushes now and as far as i know the best ones are the vikan head brushes and the worst are ionics because the bristles on the ionics brushes always seem to get bent out of shape . what do the rest of you think

Company I used to work for had ionics brushes/poles and the brushes were absolute c**p they ended up looking like handlebar moustaches (and as far as I know he's still using them!!!!!)

Not for me they ain't, used it twice and won't be using it again. Too heavy and bristles flop all over the place....yuck!
On recommendation I've tried the co-op Addis brush and after 3 days of use I'm converted, very light, cheap and for me bristles are spot on.
Just my opinion ;D

Its mono filament, Bentley don t do mono, it wears better than anything I have come across in 10 years and has flex and splay.
There was an incredibly interesting blue one with white stock at the show that looked liked it would do cills but a tad heavy. But interested my hot buttons.

after a month or so with the new vikan rectangular i realy like it but i dont like the oval ones, the facelift brush is great but too big. for me the worst was gaz's swivel brush, hated it, not the swivel part but the brush itself.
i would like the vikan rectangular (in all aspects) but with mono-filament bristles but dont think they do one. :-\

At the Window cleaning Warehouse I saw a new Vikan brush that had mono filament bristles ;)....at least I think it was Vikan ???

For me the best I've come across in use so far is the Bentley brush.
Exceptionally light, good bristle length, retains its shape and has good splay in use.

Bentley had a stand at the show, to be honest, I didn't see a brush there that I thought would be suitable...they were all far too heavy for my liking.
The white one is top banana though ;)

Bentley Stand was industrial, the domestic section was not there. Bentley do not make a mono filament brush. Addis do.

That brush Ian was a vikan brush it also had plastic fan spray jets in which I thought was fab but they told me the price was £35 and you could get it off there website but theyv'e misinformed us because its not
My local supplier can get vikan brushes I may get him to get one for me at a lower price

I just love the subject of best brushes!

I have just used Gaz's latest brush and his swivel and here are my thoughts;

Firstly they are both good products.

The Green salmon brush.

Fantastic bristles much better than the last one I had from you Gaz. I thought that the bristles were easily the equal of the Tucker brush that I have on one of my Extender poles. Overall I found that the brush was too heavy for my liking at 440 grammes. But this is actually about the same as a 25cm Vikan (450 grammes). I will stick to my Super-Lite brushes but will be in contact about a supply deal, because they are good.

Swivel adapter.

What a great device. Very easy to get the hang of and did exactly what it says on the box. I found that it worked better with the Super-Lite brush than the Salmon brush as the weight of the Salmon sometimes made it adjust it's angle on it's own! whereas the lighter brush always waited for your input.

I will certainly keep one in the car, but I will not use it all the time as it introduced too much play into the brush and gooseneck which annoys me slightly. Also I found that although I could swivel at will most of the time it actually slowed me up slightly. I used it all day with no problems but took it off for the last 3/4 hour job and found that I was working faster overall without it, despite the odd awkward sideways window. Also when used sideways although I could very nicely get my brush at the right angle to the window it reduced the pressure I could use on the window.

There would be no point using it on windows over second level as when you get to third level windows there is no need for strange angles.

Overall- good as it does allow you to adapt most standard brushes at will, use sparingly.

Have you noticed all window cleaners try to crush your hand, I soon found the best way was to get in there first.
