Steempro or Ninja
« on: March 08, 2007, 07:49:10 am »
Slightly more matched than the rug doctor.

I am looking to buy second hand machine as setting up on my own (have been in partnership for last two years and only used steempro). Have been advised that Ninja's are prone to engine/pump blowing (this was by someone at.............wait for it.................Prochem). From what I have read on here it seems the ninja is king.

Your opinions would be useful.

I doubt if there is much to chose between a Steampro and a Ninja with 135psi and an element heater.

Because of the way  Ashbys market their products you might find extra such as larger pumps on Ninjas but if they break down  a larger pump  costs a lot more to replace, You may also find you will need to replace motors in a short space of time. So check out prices of these items.

Do not pay  over the odds on Ebay.

I recently aquired an Ashbys  Powerbrush and it worked for 45 minutes, took it to my repair man  I am told I need a  new motor over £100

Have not had time to see if I can source one for less

Hi Ian,

Steempros come with 100psi as standard. Would the extra 35 make a big difference?

In my opinion not a lot but I just clean carpets and sell window blinds so i have always avoided mine is bigger than yours debates. As long as it works its fine by me.

The larger pumps do make a difference but depends how experienced you are.

If money is tight stick to smaller pumps as they are more reliable a cost less to replace.

It made an assumption that both machines have twin vacs, some of the lower cost models have single vacs.

You need two , then you get into serial or parallel which is best.

again I do not care they both do the job.

Also been using the Ninja, 400 psi version with Vac Booster Adaption for about a year and nothing comes close. Tremendous power - highly recommended. Know Ashbys well and they always look after you  :)

Hi Terry - got to pop off to a job in a mo, three piece...

Yeah, big difference. Had a 135 psi High Flow before - all good. 400 psi much better and the vac power with the Vac Booster is amazing. Give it a try when your next in.

Having used both the steempro and ninja i would say the ninja is the better buy.
I have 5 ninjas with two being the 400psi version and the rest just the standard 135 versions. The 400 ps model weighs a lot, lot more, so lifting up stairs and in and out the van is more back breaking.when it comes down to Performace the 400 psi version is more powerful but not as much as i expected. I thought buying it would shave loads of time off jobs but to be honest i have not noticed a dramamatic improvement. I use a 135 model if i'm working in flats or cleaning upholstery and i use the 400 model when cleaning large areas or comercial work. I will be probally selling a yellow 400psi ninja soon as i've just ordered a truckmount.

we have both machines and quite frankly the steempro is just used as backup. a 400psi ninja with internal steemate is far better. also been using the new ashbys powders , they dissolve much better, smell much better and my solution tank heater element is now scale free due to the inbuilt de scaler, also the recommended dilution is 1 15ml scoop per 20 litres, we have cut this down to 1 scoop per 40 litres and seems to work just as well on standard cleans.

Hi Luc

Keep me posted on the sale of the ninja.  Do you have a rough idea of what you will be looking for it.

SPEND, SPEND, SPEND !!!  Don't be mad! Take it from a seasoned carpet cleaner, swapping machines is time and money consuming.
Get hold of a cfr forward motion roller wand to try and you'll then appreciate what the 400psi of your ninja is REALLY capable of. As someone who did the above I can confirm that you're currently using the 400psi Ninja at a third of its cleaning potential.
Derek Bolton will tell you the same ;)
