I am in Essex and have tried unsuccessfully to sell some of my work round here.....i have tried Shop windows,this Forum,other forums...had interest,but mainly time wasters.
 Its not that i need the dosh (the Carpets are really starting to kick in now )i genuinely would like to look after my ex-customers,so my question is...is the world of Window cleaning now saturated/Has everybody got enough/too much Work?

 I guess its a good thing .

Regards to all..this really is a wonderful forum,without the search feature on here i wouldnt have had such success so far spotting all kinds of crazy,weird stuff on differant Carpets!

Have you tried to advertise it in the Evening Echo?

I attended a B.W.C.A course a couple of week ago and the instructor told everyone that there are 160,000 registered window cleaners in this country.
Now, if were generous and say there are 30 million domestic properties plus 10 million commercial properties it gives a total of 40 mill'.
40 mill' divide by 160,000 leaves a grand total of 250 customers per w/c!!!
I may have got the sums wrong. If not, it's not a very good ratio.

250 decent customers would be about right for me I think.  I have 210 at the moment.  I could lose 30 or 40 of the lower paid jobs and substitute with about 80 higher paying jobs and I would consider that an OK workload.  Of course I'm not talking about all 3 bed semis.

I would be happy with 250 customers all £10 + throw in a couple of commercial on top to bump my takings up

Commercials are included in the 250.
Plus, a proportion of the 250 won't want their windows cleaned so the figure could be a lot lower.
Having said all the above, i'm still going to give it a go........stooopid or wot!!

i have been cleaning windows for 12 years but have always got to a certain amount of work then sold of the worst or the work too far away

then about 2 years ago i was and still am considering emigrating to canada so i was at a immigration show and i asked one of the people there about window cleaning in canada and how it is regarded she told me about a glaswegian w/c that moved over 10 years ago and now turns over $3.1million per year

that got me thinking about all the work i have sold dropped and turned down over the years
i was inspired by this so have being building up my round from i think it was around the 200 jobs to now 465 in about a year i employ 1 person full time and very soon will be putting another van on the road and another employee

The population of Britain is nearly 59 million so if there are 160, 000 window cleaners that means around one in 368 of people in Britain are window cleaners!

Of those, 368 some would be children, retired, women (no offence to you lady window cleaners out there) ......so that doesn't leave a lot does it?

I think 160,000 is a bit high.

Look at it this way, Add up the Clearchoice membership of 600, the FED, not sure how many members and APWC, again not sure, and that means less than 1-2% % are in an association of some kind?

I really don't think 160,000 is anywhere near acurate. My town has population of 34,000 and I only know of about 15 window cleaners, have been in this area for 15 years and we get to know each other very well. Thats a ratio of 1/2266?

I understand what you're saying and i agree.
The 160,000 figure mentioned on the course does seem high.
I took a look at the BWCA website a while ago to double check and the figure is even HIGHER!! 180,000 from memory.
This gives an even worse ratio of w/c to customer. Not very encouraging for us newbies.

hi In canada how do they clean windows in the winter it's supposed to be very cold.
