I have a stepladder. It's a very nice stepladder but it's sad that I never knew my real ladder

Not 100% sure what you mean but I switched over to cleantechs mini bore hose which is 8mm id and I use the schrarder type fittings. Here is a picture of the fittings. Might be of some help to you ???

how do you fit those clamps on the end of the hose...once they are on...is that it or can you loosen them and re-tighten?

You can use pliers, but tile-nibblers are better

once they are on
They're ON!

is that it or can you loosen them and re-tighten?

You can use something like an auger to loosen out the lugs, but not if you're in a hurry and value your fingers! But the things cost pennies, why not use a hacksaw http://www.airlines-pneumatics.com/webcat/Detprod.asp?ProductCode=S080031
