Leave them if it's going to rain
« on: January 25, 2007, 09:05:52 pm »
I went collecting tonight[ but not for much longer] And this women said, "I'll pay you this time, but would you not do them in future if it's going to rain". I was gobsmacked. So what are we now, weather forecasters too?
I told her that I didn't work under those terms, and I was removing her from my list. She said "OK, my friend up the road has a window cleaner that only comes when she calls him".
Don't some people really pee you off? The irony is, she will probably find someone that is prepared to drive 3 miles to do her house for a fiver.
I was kicking myself after, I should have agreed with her, and kept her waiting forever.
"Are you doing my house today? No dear, I think it's going to rain". Dai

I had one last week, when i knocked the door the husband answered and said to his wife its the window cleaner and i heard her say well has he been when did he come i havent seen a ticket to say they have been cleaned.

When he came back i said it was tuesday and a ticket was put through your letter box as your dog was there going mad and pushed it through with my pen so i wouldnt lose any fingers.

Anyway got home tonight and she had left a message on my phone, hello its Mrs .......... from ...................... you have been cleaning our windows and i,m just ringing to say we will no longer be requiring your services.

So i thought about this for a while and i new her windows were sparkling so i new it couldnt be anything to do with bad workmanship, so i rung her and asked her why she had cancelled, she said somebodyelse was going to do them the old fashioned way and they were £ 2.00 cheaper, to which i replied well when your windows are black again over the conservatory like they were the first time i cleaned them because the lads on ladders cant reach them dont ring me to come back and do them for you, now goodnight and f### off.

I no its not good customer relations but over the years ive learnt that there is no pleasing some people and there are loads of arseholes that we bump into on our travels and i dont give a toss anymore, its just another t##t of my list who will be replaced by somebody decent.

Just tell them you won't charge extra for the rain water rinse, that usually works for me.

Was cleaning monday and it started to snow hard, the customer (first time clean) opened the front door and said

"What are you going to do now it is snowing?"

Bearing in mind these windows were filthy I answered real seriously

"I'm going to put my hat and gloves on"

I think she got the mesage.

Only half marks I'm afraid - you should have added " and a nice cup of tea and a biscuit will keep me going thanks!"
It's a game of three halves!

I think you did the right thing in being up front with her.  Apart from that, at least she won't be phoning you in a few months time so it's better for you too.  Tempting though it is to stoop to their level, in the longterm I think I feel better about myself when I rise above it.
