 Today while cleaning a dog jumped up the inside of a door and somehow opened it, I had my back to it with radio on and didn't hear it coming.

  First I knew of it I had it biting the back of my right leg just above the knee, I still have teeth marks and a bruise, anyway I shouted and jumped and it backed off just long enough for me to get my pole ready, I had to hit it 3 times really hard like I was hitting a golf ball with the fat end of my 16ft pole before the bugger went down.

  Moral of the story - dont clean house with dogs that go nuts the whole time you are there - and especially when they are Alsations!!

A few years ago ,I got attacked by a large dog while cleaning and bitten 6 times,the owner did'nt care less nor the police as it happened in the owners garden,I thought the owner might at least give me a tenner for some new jeans but no.

So I went to the C.A.B.,,VERY,VERY helpful,,,4 weeks later they gave me a cheque for £ 1750.00 after they wrote to the dog owners insurance on my behalf,I duly made them a contribution,,,I got me new jeans plus a leather sofa !! Mind you ,I think twice if I see or even hear a dog now in a garden and would rather leave a job than take a chance.

Not to detract from the fact you were bitten....it's a guard dog and did what it is supposed to do....unfortunatly the dog may well suffer for the inactions of the owner.

i do a job,and the dog goes absolutely mental every time i go round there.On occasions,i feel like its going to bite me,but the owner justs calmly says,"he wont urt yer".

Its just that "not knowing" element that does my head in.

I've had to give an aggresive border collie a 'stab' in the chest with the end of my Unger pole once to keep it from savaging me.  It was enough to make the collie from going from me; till the owner came out and got the dog.

I no longer do this account, since the dog owner knew I did the front of the house and was too thick to close his back door for when I went round the back.

I also clean a pub and the manager has two German Shephards who want to savage me.  The owner was obviously too thick to realise that the dogs didn't like me gaining access to the rear of their pub with a big WFP in my hand; which is why they wanted to eat me.  I looked like a threat to them.

After I had a word in his ear, he now takes them away while we're on the job.

I've also been 'nipped' twice; once by another border collie and a Jack Russell.

For once, I agree with Squeaks.  

If the owner has daft dogs, drop 'em.

To Fast 1; when the Jack Russel bit me (or rather nipped my ankle), the owner said prior to the attack, 'Don't worry he won't bite you', then after the attack he said, 'He's never done that before'.

I'd drop that account you do.

Blimey    Some of you guys have been really unlucky!!  In all my years I've only ever been bitten once, and that wasn't even a customer's dog!  I was doing the fronts of a long row of terraces which fronted straight onto the street (best type - no front gardens or fences ) when a dog ran across the road, jumped up at me as I stood on the third or fourth rung and bit my leg.  I shook it off and as it came back for another go I stamped down hard on the top of its head.  Got it twice once on the head, and then as I drove its head down its jaw hit the rung beneath it.  It ran off yelping and didn't come back

You were very unlucky, Marc, there's no defence against a dog that can open doors.

Other than those, I always talk to any dog that's in a garden where I want to go.  Believe it or not, the dog will tell you if it's going to attack - just learn to read the signals dogs put out and don't go in if they tell you not to :

ive only been biten once ( well twice, but once was at a footy match by a beast of a police dog, but thats another story )

i used my aplicator and smacked it really hard a few times, it only nipped me, i still do the account and the dog is ok now, its like he remmbers me

I'm in my 24th year now, and I've never been bitten by a dog in all that time...I did have one account many years ago where the border collie tired to herd me all the time..kept trying to sneak around the back of me, and yes, if I hadn't kept my eye on him he'd have nipped at me
I've one account where there is this Jack Russell that goes demented every time I call, bark! bark! bark! all  the bloody time The owner shouts at it constantly...doesn't make a blind bit of difference though...
When the wife takes it for a walk, often about 6.30am, she will on occasion take it down through town where I'm cleaning shop windows, I don't even need to turn around, as soon as it catches sight of me it's straining at the leesh and doesn't stop snarling and barking until the owner has dragged around a corner out of sight!
I like to wind it up too...thats fun
So far though I have had no more to worry about than a couple of dogs barking at me as I'm working.

  Thanks for all the replies, I have no intention of sueing the owner - it wasn' her fault, it was just an accident that the dog hit the door handle - although if it happens agian i will shoot it!!

   I have no problems with dogs, I am an experienced dog owner, I have owned retrievers and rottwielers, I now have a Border Collie, anyone who owns dogs will tell you that a border is the most demanding of all dogs due to its intelligence.

  On the Border Collie line, a word to all, watch out for them, they do look cute and cuddly, BUT they are very terratorial and can be very aggressive, add that to their intelligence and herding ability, aggility and speed, they will have you before you know it, and be gone again just as quick.

Does anyone do their own leaflet dropping?? I remember being bitten a couple of times whilst dropping leafletts through doors... totally unexpected and unless they bark... no warning. 

Needless to say, we use a leafletting company now, rather them than me!

  I have had them charge at the door before and a couple have just grazed the end of my fingers before now, don't leaflet much anymore, but always look through glass as I put leaflet through.
