Even I have bad days
« on: January 24, 2007, 05:24:44 pm »
The day started with my first clean, seen the guy in his chair fast asleep, now this guy yaps for gold medals, ::) so I tried to do it quietly as not to wake gabby

did the front great half way there, went round the back and did 5 more windows, looked through the patio doors   and he's still asleep, stepped back and kicked a bloody gnome over and the old bugger woke up, I could have cried .

OK half hour later, I got away from him and off to do next door, started doing hers and out comes the dog and nipped my ar*e, if the woman wasn't there it would have had a vikan over its head, :o  now I.m beginning to get moody  finished off and went on to my third house, set every thing up and started the first window, fine, second window and the bl**dy water stopped :'(:  went to check it out and the pump, was happily singing to itself,
OK Jeff calm down I thought, its probably sucking air, checked the filter, that's OK, started to check the quick fit connectors and I could see it sucking air, disconnected my battery and took the connectors apart, sorted it out, and connected my battery back up, connected the battery the wrong way and blew the fuse  :'( can anything else go wrong today I thought?  but I'm only half way through the day now, so any thing can happen.
Ok next six houses went fine, until the last one.
Doing the back of a 17th century house and stepped back into a pond up to my knee (@*@5%*@),(second Time, first one was on Friday)  OK I can cope  :'(
Decided to call it a day when I finished. But first of all I have to pop up the road to see a customer, so I decided to unhitch my trailer and make it easy for my self, to get there and back, with out the hassle of the trailer. did that little job and got my trailer,  3 miles away from my last job, and on my way home, looked up at my pole carrier and no brush hanging were it should be  :'(
I had to drive back and pick my pole and brush up,were I had left it.
So today has not been a good day, but who cares at least I couldn't fall of my ladder, because I had forgotten it this morning

if the woman wasn't there it would have had a vikan over its head, :

 ;D ;D ;D

More than one use for a vikan!

I had a bad day too >:( Not half as bad as yours jeff ;D

Pulled up at a house today and parked beside me was a crew cab pick up full of bods on there tea break. (builders) must have been 4-5 of them.

So me being me wanted to show off ;D I opened the door took my pole out then off I went to the first window as proud as can be. I rushed round the first house while they all watched me, going a lot quicker than normal. Moved on to the second house (next door) and went to extend my 19ft 3 section facelift. The bloody clamp snapped off >:(

What little was left of the clamp I managed to extend the pole and tighten it up as best as I could. Started cleaning again on upstairs windows and then clamp gave way and came crashing down like a ton of bricks. At this point they are all still watching me.

Felt a bit stupid at this point as I could hear them all laughing! Maybe not at me? Yeah right!

So I went back to the van and climbed in the back and started raiding my box of spare parts to see if I had anything at all that would get me back in action and finish the job.

I had nothing, so I went and asked the driver of the pick up (as his window was down) If they happened on the off chance to have a bolt and wing nut. He replied "yes! there's one in the back" pointing to what looked like his young apprentice ;D

Then the passenger chirped up, "hang on a second! I will check our tool box".
And what did he have? The perfect size bolt and wing nut. Problem solved ;)

The bit I got from that was about a facelift clamp breaking.  I seem to have heard a few tales of this particular woe.
My day went OK really I suppose.  Started at 11.  Finished at 3.  The wet brush in the van was slightly stiff with cold before I started but I just ran a bit of warm water around it in the bath and it was fine within a couple of minutes.  Went through the mail when I got in.  Had an £8.50 cheque with a cancellation letter.  If this was a recently priced job it would be £11 so I didn't mind too much.  They seem to have new flower pots every time I go there anyway so I'm a bit relieved not to have to work around the clutter any more.  Nice people though.  They've been customers for 10 years maybe.  Lost another one yesterday.  It's a £6 pain in the rear that I have to get the trolley out for.  I was informed that I was cleaning too soon (I was late !!) and that she considered three monthly was quite sufficient.  I told her that I don't do three monthly cleans (not for that sort of job anyway), and when I got home, deleted that record from my database.  Yet the day before, I picked up a £12er that will take 15  minutes once I've got past the first clean.  So £15 lost that took me 40 minutes to earn, £12 gained that will take 15 minutes.  As time goes by, I seem to be having less customers, earning a bit more from them, and having more free time.  If this goes on a few more years, I will be working one day a week for £500 and have 100 customers  :)  .  Seriously though, it's time to fill in the gaps a bit.
