Hey Jeff, thanks for that :) So is squeegee off not a detergent? Or just not as much of a pain as fairy?

Glad you're doing well! I'm really looking forward to changing over too, I'm just a little nervous about building a system :S

I'm not to sure, but I do believe it does not leave as much of a film on the windows, and less to wash  out of rubber seals, etc.
before I changed over I was bricking it, but with the help and guidance from all the guy's made it so much easier. go to Matts site if you haven't already, there is loads of info on there for building your own system.
It will be the best move you ever made. ;)

Squeegie Off doesn't contain "surfacer" or "surface agent" which is present in most washing up liquids. Its some sort of polish that leaves the dishes shiny because shiny dishes look cleaner to Mrs Housewife.
This is the film that gets left on the window. For the trad window cleaner its good for business because it attracts the dirt and holds it so the windows need cleaning more often but it takes a couple of cleans with a WFP sometimes to get it all off the glass

in that transition stage myself, and in preparation i switched to gg4 and in the warmer weather was using pure water from the tank as well.  Although without doubt fairy is the worse thing on the planet for wfp, why is it that some windows come up pukka and yet others dont.?

upvc windows are a complete lottery for the first time wfp. My mate pointed out the glass quality has a lot to do with it. If you put a piece of modern glass under a microscope you can see how pitted it is, and this can hold the detergent.  Hence why some upvc glass comes up better than others depending on the quality.

On friday we converted a days work to wfp, and one road we did was upvc. After wards we went back round the work. Most was very good (only doing upstairs), But one was shocking. It was so bad i went back round and squeegeed them. ( she wasnt home thankfully).

Yet all the wooden framed older window were all coming up superb and some were so good i didnt bother putting my explanation letter through.

I have complete confidence with all the wooden windows i do with wfp yet am never sure about upvc.

Supposed to be doing a council estate tomorrow in the same area. all upvc many cheap windows. and i think i may bottle it and ladder them  ???

supposed to be freezing with snow this week. Not so good for wfp.

Mark you are doing Exactly what I did not want to do, and this is were the few months before-hand came in handy, by explaining there could be problems with the first 2/3 cleans, all my customers seem to understand, but to be quite honest most don't care, just as long as they get there windows cleaned, but I felt I had to fore warn them and then follow up with the letter.

Another thing I did not want to do, and that was to do just the tops, if I was going wfp then it was all or nothing, I am more lucky than some guy's, in such, I can return home and refill if I run out without to much loss in time.

Your comments on the windows was interesting, and I spent a little time on the downstairs windows just watching what the water does, the thing I noticed after washing the frames and the windows, then returning to do just windows, was the dirty water left on the frame face, and if this is left it dries dirty and spotty, and this water can run down onto the windows, I now give the frames that little extra rinse and have had no problems so far.
were the glass is concerned, I have only ever noticed sheeting and beading, like has been mentioned so many times before. but I will continue to take the time to see what happens on the glass.

This is really interesting. Who would've thought there was such a science to cleaning windows?  :o

Jeff, did you find any of your customers were asking for a free reclean after you went round for the first time? I can imagine this might take a lot of time. Did you have many complaints? My customers are by and large a friendly bunch, so I'm hoping they will be fine when I switch them over  :-\

Hi sheepmeister
I have not had to do one reclean yet, had no complaints either.

The very first customer I did wfp, I get on really well with, I asked her to email me with the results of my first ever clean for payment, she later emailed me saying all was fine except for the office window, that had a dirty run after asking what window it was, she replied the office window, now this window has one of those stuck on thremometers. ( I hate those things)
next day I called in when passing and found the water had run from the double sided sticky tape, I offered to reclean it and she said it would be fine until next time. So it wasn't a complaint but could well have been one if she was a funny customer.
If I now come across those pesky thermometers I rinse and rinse again.

My one piece of advice will always stand with me! and that is start cleaning the frames while your up your ladder, this little extra work now, will pay you back when you do change to wfp.

Best of luck with the change over and keep us posted when it happens. but in the mean time keep asking questions, all the help I had was from forums like this.
