Charge what you think you are worth, what i did was to ring all my local competitors to get a feel for the range of pricing in my area, then i made myself one of if not THE most expensive, you do however have to then give a better service than the £8 a carpet guys.

Give several people a call out of your YP, ask them how much to do an 18'x12' room then work out how much this costs per square foot (or meter) then you charge similar. I personally charge 27p per square foot. Always measure the room when doing a quote. Hope this helps.

Hi,
When i started out, i went about charging by the sqft but found that it took a long time especially if you had alot of rooms to measure and wanted to do it accurately. So recently i have started charging by the room and to be honest there isn't much init. What i mean is i could measure a room out to get a price or i could charge a set price for the same room and the price would be very similiar i suppose when you have done a few quotes then you just know. Also if you want to charge by the sqft you must be careful for instance if a room was 12x14 sqft that would be easy to calculate the area. But say a room was 12.6x13.10 and you wanted to be very precise then you would have to work out the conversion rates because there are 12 inches to a 1 ft so if you put these dimensions into a calculator you would need to put 12.5x10.83 and this is because if you tried putting 13.10" into the calculator it would read it as 13.1" so this would effect you final calculations there for your overall price. Obviously many people wont be quite so anal as me lol and will just round it up to the nearest ft but the reason i started out measure each job was to be as precise as poss with my prices as i thought that is what the customer would want. In the end it was to much hassle so i just worked out a price list for each average room obviously if you do some jobs which arent your average size rooms then you might be better of measuring on these occasions. Hope this helps lol

Dont forget to add £15-£20 extra for a badly stained room...it is time consuming, and time is money after all...I always make sure I get the truth out of them on the phone these days......a couple of stains, as they put it, ....
normaly turns out to resemble a crime scene in some cases.
