Quoted £10
« on: January 18, 2007, 03:18:45 pm »
Dont want to know what everyone charges it just winds me up, but I found this quite comical.
Lady got my number out of yellow pages. Wanted a 6 x 4 poly mat cleaning. Which to me is  a 20-25 min job. Told her my min charge was £40. Which i agreed could buy her a new mat. Asked if she wanted to throw in any runners or stairs etc for same min charge I'd do them too. She didnt have any. She said she had called other companies who quoted her £10 !!!!!!!!. Is that as crazy price or what. I told her to go with those. And even crazier they werent even local to her.
And this is a Yellow Pages advertised company quoted £10. I dont want a lecture that I should explain to her the pitfalls of going very cheap. But I think I'd book them and save my back and diesel   lollllllllll

We just let them get on with it...local guy just quoted £20 for a job worth minimum of £35 (next lowest quote, after 6 quotes!) and worth at least £45 to us...he has lower overheads runs pt time from a car with magnetic signs, already mopped up  after a couple of his jobs.

Wonder if he pays tax and insurance?

........... you pays your money u take ur choice!

Anyway can't win them all just makes us smile,   :D, love to see his face when she hands him a cheque! :o

Had one a few days ago.

She said can you come and clean my lounge carpet on Wednesday at 6pm :o o.k no problem! she said how much for 250sq ft I reply £70 then came the old well the last guy charged me £20 to which i said he must of done a good job thank you bye...

I have a minium charge of £45 and think thats too cheep. By the time you have set up and done the jobs you can be looking at 2 hours out of your day.

I will often do a quick job such as this for £10. About 5mins tops is all it takes!!
Factors would obviously be taken into account, location, distance form last job etc.
Just use the job as a p**s and refreshment stop between real work.

My min call out is also £45 or £50 if in a neighbouting town in my county, however we had a job the other day when the neightbour asked for us to do his hall way, so i charged him a tenner, i prevacced and prepped while i was waiting for the dwell on my first job so it took me about 5 mins longer in the end, however i wouldnt dream going to a job to clean a rug for a tenner, even if they brought it to me id be hard pushed to justify it.

hi there

what surprises me is that cutomers get quotes at £10 , £20 and then continue ringing round t see if they can get it cheaper.

thats ridiculous,

selling up must be the keyfactor in business, not selling down.

i quote, and the customer will either accept or not,
regards

martin

if you live local or can fit it in with another job and you NEED the £10 you'll do it!

I have a min of £59 but do try to ask for more than 1 carpet, so the job average goes up hopefully to £100 may be more.

Did a slightly larger rug a few days ago for £70, and would have included a flight of stairs, had there been a resistance, however, it was just the rug and I was paid in cash.
