Expose the truth - Yes or No?
« on: July 16, 2004, 02:18:40 pm »
The "FMVSS-208 TYPE claim" topic was removed from the another forum forum. I believe that this sends the wrong message;

Its OK to make misleading claims on another forum, but it's not OK to expose the truth!

At least thats the way I see it, I'm questioning whether my sense of duty is misplaced but in this case the claim misrepresented the potential safety of a product.

Best regards

Thats surprised me that one, i think your right it should have stayed. There was no abuse or slander from you to the other company. It was just facts, that you made others aware of, and i for one would like to no if i was mislead when buying something.

Dear Alan,

In your PM on another forum you made it quite clear that this was not a topic for discussion on another forum.

Further, you did not reply to either of the two PM's I sent to you regarding this matter.

I take it that it was you who cast the single NO vote so far. There is no reason why you should not debate the matter with me here by PM or in public if you prefer.

kind Regards
Craig

The truth should not be censored and providing you are not libeling someone in the process, when missleading information can be corrected I believe it should be done so.
There was a good series of posting on the When I'm Cleaning Windows forum with someone trying to pass themselves off as a satisfied customer rather than a supplier. He was missleading the entire forum and was exposed, deservedly. Its a posting that makes good reading.

A shame that a posting on here was censored by its removal.

Please read the thread more carefully, to my knowledge nothing has been removed here on cleanitup, and you can read the entire topic in question here:

When buying a system, we don't expect to have to search around all of the various government agencies to see if this or that supplier has actually told us the truth in their advertising.  This has to be brought to our attention, and Craig has done this.

If an independent body has made an adjudication, then it is absolutley right that should be made known to us.  This is a significant consideration in deciding whether to buy from a company or not.

Oop :-[
My mistake!
I visit the three forums that most of us tend too, sometimes with all three open at the same time, didn't mean to slight the integrity of the moderators on here :-X
My grovelling appologies are hereby tendered :-[

(I have read all the links too :-/

Thank you to all those who took the time to read the various posts and vote in the Poll, its great to see such clear support for my action.  After the moderator on another forum undertook to remove the post I did question whether placing the post had been the right thing to do.

When I posted the poll I had planned to make a public apology if the outcome had demonstrated that I was out of line.

Steve Lowe did take the time to telephone me to discuss the issue and I'm pleased that he did so. The moderator that removed the post never responded to either of the 2 PM's I sent him or my invitation to discuss the issue here on Cleanitup.

I shall respect his wish not to bring up the subject on another forum and hold the view that this was a mistake rather than a protectionist policy. However, I do think that its interesting that the site which was partly set up because of the lively debacle that took place here 7 months ago in which it was said that Cleanitup was a pro Ionic forum, now begins to look like a pro Brodex site.

The professional relationship that we have with Express Cleaning Supplies would never have permitted us to use the Cleanitup forum as a grooming parlour, in fact I never met with Mike Boxall until he came to visit us to get to the bottom of things in order to moderate the issue at hand. Mike is a straightforward fellow and I have no doubt that he would have acted against us had be discovered that we had mislead him and other forum members.

Both forums offer wide and varied subject matter that certainly reflects the developing professionalism that exists in our industry today. I do regret the public debacle that tainted both forums earlier in the year and it is my view that the truth has won out at the end of the day.

The status quo has now been reached, moderators will not allow any kind of public row to develop, the truth has been exposed, and all involved have gone through a steep learning curve.

I do apologise to those who found this process boring and tedious, I understand that it detracted from your enjoyment of the forums.

Yours sincerely
Craig Mawlam

Do you have "A" level English Craig?
It would have taken me 6 months to write something as comprehensive as that!
Thanks again for making this public knowledge.
