Microbial Help Required
« on: January 08, 2007, 06:29:58 pm »
Hi all,

I'm new to this forum though have been reading for a few days now and am really impressed by the advice you're willing to give.  Now, I need advice...

A customer called this evening wanting me to clean her carpets and then apply a microbial.  The previous owner had a serious cat thing going on and she's not too happy about her baby crawling all over the carpets. Fine except I've never actually used a microbial.

I searched this site and the main products seem to be SoluBAC and Ultrafresh.  I'll probably opt for Ultrafresh because I know my local supplier stocks it. My questions are:

Is it a simple process of spraying it on the carpets (and does it come in it's own trigger spray)?

Do I need any special spraying equipment?

Is it safe for her little 'un to crawl around on - how much time should I advise the customer to leave it?

Is there anything else I can do to eliminate the odours and bacteria?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Darren.

another really helpful answer from Matt ;)

what does the customer want you to actually do? did they mention 'microbial' or was it something you suggested?

a thorough clean will remove any cat hairs, as for anything else could it just be a psychological problem living in the customers head.

but... Prochem Clesan is pre-sprayed scrubbed in & rinsed, not to sure about solubac. ultrafresh is just a masking agent i believe

Unless this is a different product but called the same thing............... Ultrfresh was banned about 10 years ago, at least in California, granted they are a law unto themslves when it comes to sdafety and chemicals. Best, Dave.

hi there

anti- microborial is a chemical with a number of uses,
prochem produce microsan, and another is mill kill,

we use it in black and grey water flood incidents especially , both spray and re flood applications to treat, neutralise and sanitise affected areas.

regards

Thanks for the replies guys.

Mike,

It was the customer who actually stated she wanted some sort of anti-microbial treatment - she's just worried about her daughter eating the carpet! However, I checked out both Clensan and Microsan (cheers, Martin) on the Prochem website but will probably go with Clensan because it can be diluted directly with the Crystal Green solution.  Two birds, one stone and all that!

Dave,

I couldn't find any reference to Ultrafresh on the website so you may well be right about it being discontinued.  Reminds me that I'll have to check Cleansan will definitely be family safe.

Matt,

I nearly googled CCSW... nearly but not quite!   ;D

Thanks, again,  for the help.

Darren.

Darren,

These products are good also.  Available from Chemspec.

http://www.unsmoke.com/

Be careful with using Clensan mixed with Grystal Green as Prochem prefer the product to remain in the carpet ie. as a final spray.  Please find below copy of an email I got from them.
To make up 20 litres of solution you need:
4 litres B109 Fibre & Fabric Rinse,
1 litre B125 Clensan
and 15 litres of water.
For a stronger solution replace the water with up to 3 more litres of Clensan. So maximum strength would be 4+4+12 (B109 + B125 + water). The same mix applies to OdourFresh or Crystal Green.

Having said this, it is sometimes more advisable to spray on Clensan AFTER cleaning and leave it in the carpet. It's efficacity is reduced when you extract it out.

Hope this helps

Darren

Hi MCG

I use Ultrafresh and its excellent you only need to use a very very small amount into your cleaning solution so far it has neutralised every odour situation that I have used it on.  It is very strong though if your using a sprayer use correct dilution and  apply using a respirator and open windows slightly if ok with customer and close door after spraying.  I personally recommend the room is not used for 24 hours once dry it is safe.

Personally if there is any chance of infant sucking tufts of carpet I would not apply.

Its very good for use on carpet in a damp property where there is a chance of mould growth.

Hi guys,

After all that the customer decided against having it done. She said it was because of the worry she has with regards to how safe the product is with her baby.  I reckon it's because she didn't want to pay any more! ::)

Oh well.

Regards,
Darren.
