Black Top
« on: December 29, 2006, 01:38:52 pm »
Black top has become a bit of a mystery to me after reading these forums. It seems some will attempt to clean it and others wont. Maybe it is only the TM owners who can remove it? I did think it would be possible using a presrpay and bonnet machine before HWE with a portable. Now I am not sure after only just managing to remove a small area in this way. What is the deal here? Do many carpet cleaners simplyh never enter the pub/club environment with their gear?

Hi

I have used Prochems Traffic Lane clean on Pub Black Top Carpets and it has come out a treat. You do need to agitate a lot but once it softens up it cleans up really well.

Blitz is also very good but is hard to get hold of.

Good portable.
Enzall Prespray. Plenty dwell time.
Envirodry or similar for agitation, if you don`t have a rotary.

Rich

Work is work and a good earner. :-X ;)

Porty people (sometimes me ;D) should not be afraid to tackle black top, it not rocket science as some will lead to believe but hard work to a point! 8)

In my case be it tm or porty dwell time is the key! No longer agitate only have a Duo and rotaries, (duo waist of time, rotary can stick/stop on bad stuff) have considered the bigger brothers to the duo only two thing concern me the state of the machine after the black top and the warranty (not designed for dirty carpets ;D )

They’re a lot of pre-sprays out there; no need to spend more money than necessary a quality steamer would be more useful I take it you have Wrigley out there?

Neil

“Blitz hard to get hold of” sad think their may an alterative comes from Woodbridge was given some and not by them it’s good!

Chris

Hot water not very energy efficient ;D

Have used Blitz on many a black encrusted carpet.

Look at www.hydramaster.co.uk

Works without agitation but brushes spped up the process.

Hot pre-spray of Bane Pre Face, Dwell, Extract using a RED HOT - SKIN BLISTERING in tank solution of Bane PCA5 with emulon booster served so hot the brass conectors will take skin off your fingers.

I clean the whole black top area using only one hand on the wand, cuts through like a knife through butter. Its almost as easy as sleeping.

We used to do dozens of these using portables. Best bet is to pre-treat then continue doing remainder of carpet and keep returning to tackle the worst area. The brewery we worked for only had them cleaned when the environmental health told them to so you can imagine how bad they were.
Used a variety of chemicals over the years, most of them worked but even resorted to pouring water from a kettle to dissolve some of them.
No it didn't damage the wool any more than it already was.

I do not think its a problem.

I would have thought your Sebo Duo along with say Traffic Clean would break it up.

As a matter of interest I was talking to a Cleaner the otherday who uses a Watering can to apply Pre Spray.

I have always laughed at this in the past  but did start to wonder if he had a point.

Does Anyone else use a Waterig  can

Unless you are using an in=line sprayer with a truckmount or maybe even a portable then whats wrong with a watering can? Its just about the same as a pump up sprayer. Anyway in answer to your question Ian, I use a watering can when I clean area rugs. Best, Dave.

Chris

There are some who recon if you use the right-cleaning agents you don’t need hot water, thus saving the planet or is buy from me ;D

Nigel

Yes Blitz is good, but if hard to get hold off, one must look a for an alternative (also think it a lot cheaper but don’t hold me to that) ???

Ian

Did the chap who used a watering can go too the day out in Essex, think he may have got the idea from me (must use a fine rose) :o :-[ ;D

Still recon Dou a waist of time!

A bit of black top will sort the men from the boys :P ;D

Steve

Stopped taken them now, people nick them for there portfolio :o :-* :( ;D

First black top is the toughest! So naïve so you do it by the book, next one fine rose, John K defiantly hit the nail on the head (No it didn't damage the wool any more than it already was) but what I will add watch the seams (they probably got gaff tape on any way ;D)

I haven't had the pleasure of a pub blacktop yet but did a very nasty one about six months ago in a rental prop.
The hall carpet leading from the kitchen was black and tar like, looked just like black ice.
Warm pre-spray gold, agitation, dwell, another prespray just before commencing,Extracta C2 solution, lots of heat and the carpet came up like new.
When first starting out you think no way is that carpet going to clean up but it still amazes me what one can get out of a minging carpet.

cleaned a resteraunt yesterday. it was really greasy and had plenty of black top
found it a complete nightmare!!
first used some m-power as i was told of its miracle effect on black top
DID'NT TOUCH IT
then used a enzyme pre spray, got a lot out, then tried a citrus pre spray for really greasy areas it says on the bottle, this was much more effective , used my porty and my rotovac.
no matter what i used, it still did'nt come as clean as i wanted it to,customer was pleased with the results but i was'nt personally.
used a huge amount of water and just seemed to spend most of the time emptying and filling machine
NEVER HAD I WISHED SO MUCH THAT I HAD A TRUCKMOUNT TO TACKLE THIS JOB
can't wait to get mine now its on order.

what differnce would it make if you cant shift it with your porty why would you shift it with your t/m

let me guess.....................  oh yes bigger ,of course should have realised ;)
not that portys cant get 1000psi or plenty of heat ;)
