4 months........depending on your tdi input hard or soft water you should only be changing your pre filter about every 3 months.Your membranes should last between 2-3 years without changing

tds going into merlin about 300, which one is the pre-filter? :-\

is it the one connected to blue pipe which carries water out of merlin, not good with technology.

it's about 8 inches and cylindrical(the filter that is) and white in colour.

             regards, callum.

do you use a pre sediment filter also? if not look into getting one, a lot of people on here advise it, theyre cheap and lengthen the life of the pre filter and membranes or so i'm told. i use one anyhow, 6 months on and no problems yet

i used to usw a pre sediment but was told that is only any good if you are using your merlin to produce drinking water

high tds doesn't mean high sediment - no matter what though you should use a sediment filter before your merlin, the cost of changing a sed filter is very little, another consideration with the merlin prefilter (top sump) is that it is primarily a carbon filter, a very small amount of sediment will clog it up, also it should be changed every 19,000ltrs of inlet water or every 3 months - whichever is sooner. Lastly, don't forget that for the merlin to operate efficiently it needs to be backflushed regularly.

How do you backflush? And which prefilter would you recommend for it?

get your prefilter from www.gapswater.co.uk - you can backflush it by flushing pure water through the flush port using the merlin flush kit also available at gapswater.

Thanks, I think I'll get the flush kit. I see the carbon pre filter that my merlin already has. I don't see an additional sediment filter though except ones for other RO systems. Any idea on which sediment filter to get?

probably best to get it from ro-man click this link, you can go for either the 10 or 20 inch - we use the 20 inch, here's the links you need.

http://www.ro-man.com/shop/index.php/cPath/24_42  for 10 inch filters

http://www.ro-man.com/shop/index.php/cPath/24_41  for 20 inch filters

http://www.ro-man.com/shop/product_info.php/products_id/201  you need 2 of these for a housing
