Emotional Blackmail letter

Just been and done a job for a new customer. She and her nieghbour have just had a letter from their usual CC. saying how his car had been stolen delivering a rug to customer and he would appreciate any business with Xmas coming up and having a young family etc. Well written letter and she knows of few people who have had the same letter, her and her nieghbour have been put off using him. they are both self employed people and think the letter is in bad tatste. they were both planning on using him and he has lost two well paid jobs to me because of it.

The cc in question uses tadpole marketing, I was wondering if this was one of their ideas?

I thought it was a good idea, but wont be tring it.

if its fake, its outrageous.   Lies are easily found out & could ruin a business.   If its true, then its sad BUT I'd still not use it, as its emotional blackmail in an attempt to earn money.

I think only a cowboy operator would even consider stooping so low as to play the emotional blackmail trick especially at this time of year.
The car was probably an untaxed Lada with a Karcher chucked in the back. :)
Even if true,the car and equipment should be insured.
In Apr 05 I had my van written off by a hit and run driver (true),and although it was an inconvenience at the time I did not feel the need to go begging to my customers,as I know they would by now be ex customers.

I can't belive anyone would have the nerve to do that.  :o It's not a proffesonal example to set for your business.

A few customer of mine used guy in my neck of the woods before me. ALLEGEDLY he started ringing up all his existing customers pleading and begging for work. Shocking.
If ever I see him I'll whack him with his karacher, and take him for a drag in under the van! ;D

I agree with you all here, another example of this in my opinion is the fast track pink flyers that tell the customer that thier carpet is full or carcinogens and that their kids crawl in it, isnt this also emotional blackmail???, it worth a thought.

If he was properly insured then both the car and the rug will be covered so he isn't going to be out of pocket by much and shouldn't be bothering his customers with this info.

If isn't insured I'd question whether he should be cleaning customers carpets in the first place!

He obviously wasn't insured otherwise he wouldn't need the extra business!

I suppose it is heading that way, for sure.

Whilst there probably are things in carpets that possibly are carcinogenic in very high concentrations, there certainly isn't enough of it to normally cause any problems.

In sales Emotions are one of the Key selling triggers.

Hence The Fast track pink fl yer backed by facts.

When I was selling Insurance I was not comfortable painting the Scenario of a family coping with the death of the main bread winner

How would they cope. Do you want to leave your loved ones in this situation etc etc.

Or family without Fire Cover.



However the example qouted is very bad and unetical.

I agree Ian, the first thing any marketting book teaches is to "invoke the pain" then deliver "the cure" our carpet cleaner guy made the mistake of invoking his own pain to his customers rather than thier pain, im my opion his customers will certainly feel pressured or bullied and when backed into a corner what do most people do? react negativley.  Ah well i really do hope his kids get a good xmas and that he was pulling a stunt, he could allways try the pink flyers next time.
