What do you do when rained off?
« on: December 09, 2006, 04:07:33 pm »

I catch up with paperwork....bit of housework (ironing, hoovering etc...Brownie Points from er indoors!!!). Phone customers assuring them they're not forgotten and I'll be round ASAP. By midday I'm bored and start flicking through TV channels.

Any advice on how to make a rainy day an earner or at least less....yaaaawn!?

have you considered offering to do customers inside windows
thay are a pain and will take longer but you can charge more and earn
a buck or two instead of nothing :)

We dont do it for domestic as all our domestic is insides and outsides but we do have a list of commercial buildings we do insides of when it rains , we just check the forecast and if inclement weather is coming we call to let them know we will be around to do some of their  insides, theres even a few we can just show up to do and they are happywith this ,we cut the hourly rate a bit to make it more appealing but its better than getting wet or going home

Ive just picked up an internal cleaning job and the best bit about it is i can do it when i like, so i told the bloke ill do it on rainy days or really really cold days.

No excuse for me not earning money when it is lashing it down ;D

Hi Simon.

When i was trad, this time of year i got a bit behind. Your customers will understand so dont worry.

I used to do a bit of house work, watch tv & catch up on all the jobs i had to do.

Cheers Macc....thank God I'm not alone!

I like to think my customers are reasonable but i know they all want them done this side of Xmas and the weather has made me 80+ jobs behind.

Still I suppose on the plus side they ain't gonna find another w/c at the drop-of-a-hat.

Can't help it....I'm just a worrier....comes with age I guess!

Hi Simon.

Your customers wont drop you because your a few weeks behind in the winter. I've many that have been on my books for 10 years & over. In the winter i was always a week or more behind. You will find 99% of your customers are loyal.

I am pretty much the same as most of you and get bored after doing papaerwork.

So, As I am still growing as a business I tend to use the rain as my time to get out and door knock for business and leaflet drop. ;D

I find that many people tend to be in more when it rains...I find I pick up more work that way...then I just have the headache of fitting the new ones into a diary that is falling behind to the weather.(nice headache tho)

In general customers are fine with delays due to weather...in general I always get a "I new you would be late this month due to the weather" ! ;)
