Larger wheels for Peters Trolley System
« on: June 20, 2004, 04:50:04 pm »
Can anyone tell me where I can get some larger wheels for Peters trolley.  The ones on peters machine are 12'' but I need 15'' or 16'' ones.

If anyone has some old pram or bike wheels this would be ideal. ;D

I'm sure you'll find similar if you pop along to your nearest B+Q, but I don't know about prices.

And me just being nosey - are you putting on a second axle, or just needing higher ground clearance?

I checked B&Q but no luck they had only very small wheels.

Hopefully with these wheels, the trolley will be able to go up and down kerbs without me having to lift it up.  If not then I have to remove and replace the axle, to the back of the trolley.

I think it's just a small design fault, ideally the battery pack and pump box should have been placed higher on the trolley, so the shelve which the battery sits on would not be positioned 3'' from the ground, also the handle is to short and I'm hopeful with the larger wheels this will be rectified.

I've also got a garden trolley which can carry 8 water containers or 7 containers plus my IO unit - hoses reels- the spare poles- plus other tools which come in handy during the day, which is working out great. 8)

I regularly have to "heave" the trolley up kirbs and things - when it's holding 2 full 35L containers that's no laughing matter!!  >:(

Let us know how you get on. If you could add larger wheel without changing anything (DIY and me don't get on well...) I would like to know as I would like to do the same too.

Cheers mate

Oh good, I thought it was just me being pernickety. I asked Peter if he could put another axle on it cos, as you say, the battery holder batters on the ground when you stop moving. Peter thought that the trolley would run downhill, but I'd just turn the thing at right angles.

Maybe I'm going to go for the second axle myself!

I think that if you put the axle at the back by the battery with 16'' wheels instead of the 12'' ones and put 2 legs on the front, then the trolley should be easliy to move around.

William
That sounds good - could you let me know how you get on?

Karl
I don't know why they're strapped on - as if they're going to move!

I got the wheels today. from www.northerntoolsuk.com ( I'm not used to such fast service) ;D

Anyway they have solid tyres which means no more punctures ;D and they are 16'' high and they fit. mind you the spindle could do with being 1/2'' longer.

I loaded it up and took it out for a test drive, the pavements and kerbs outside my house, it worked perfectly, going up and down without the undercarrage smashing onto the ground or me lifting it up the kerbs. ;D

The next test was to take it off road, as the houses I mainly clean, are terrace houses and getting to the back, means I normally have to go over all kinds of rubble and rubbish.  So off I went to a local building site and there I was like going up and over every obstacle without any problems ;D mind you the builders looking on thought I was mad :-/

The total cost including delivery was £36.17p.

So for anyone who has peters trolley and you want to improve it's performance then I recomend that you fit these wheels.
