I've discovered after about 12 years that the really best way to get customers is to talk to people.
i know it might make you seem really dull, but wherever i go, pub, shopping or just out and about, i take cards & leaflets with me and i often wear my shirt with the business name on, which often gets conversations started.
obviously you need to brush up on your conversation skills and be diplomatic, don't want to give the hard sell, but at the end of the day it's FREE
and the response is instant, people often booking you there and then
it's got to be worth a go
