What squeegie methods do you use?
« on: June 13, 2004, 04:10:48 am »
Hi

My name is Steve, I am from Kidderminster in Worcs. I set up my own part time window cleaning buisness in February of this year. I am registered with Inland Revenue and fully insured.
I would like to start by saying a very big thank you to you all, for the help, advice and ideas that I have got from this forum, for I am sure that I would not got as far as I have today.
I have a small round of about 40 customers at the moment but growing all the time, alot by recomendation.
What I would like to know is what squeegie methods you all use?, the only illustrated method I have seen is from the Ettore website. Has anyone ever taken any pictures of the different squeegie methods they use, for all to see.

Thanks

Steve

Oh Steve, you little flatterer, you.  ;)

As you rightly point out, it's a fantastic resource and gives you a massive head start on someone starting from scratch. Remember it's a two way thing though, I'm sure you'll be able to pass something back at some point. Maybe not about physically cleaning windows, you might think up a stunning flyer which pulls in masses of work, you could discover a supplier with very keen prices for example.

All the best, and I'm sure you'll be fulltime quite soon. Go for it!

Ooops, nearly forgot, this should help too . . .

If you can get yourself off to the Federation show next year, you can watch the window cleaning competition and I think there will be one here as well . . . http://www.cleanitup.co.uk/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.pl?board=Equipment;action=display;num=1086852625
You're a Scottish window-cleaner? Licensed or not, get yourself along to www.slwcn.org right now !

Hi Steve,

Personaly I have a selection of blades in the bucket. Generally I use a small 12 inch blade for pretty much everything. On huge windows I use a 22 inch. I find the smaller blade quicker because you can put more pressure on the rubber and there is less need for detailng.

My work is on a barrats estate and lots of the windos are the same size so I cut a couple of channels to fit perfectly. That way I only have to make one stroke of the glass. No lines marks or anything else, just an occasional need for detailing at the top.

Hope this helps,
