How many clean frames
« on: June 11, 2004, 04:06:20 am »
I was talking to a freind of mine today another window cleaner and he asked me if i do the frames when i clean customers windows.
Well i do on every house as i think window cleaning should include frames.
( nothing worse than clean glass and dirty white frames )
I do not charge any extra for this.
He told me to stop doing the frames unless they ask for it as it takes just as long as the glass. That way i could get more done and earn a bit more.
Question is should i take his advise and only do the frames if asked
Or Carry on doing the frames as i do now.
Thing is i have only just started back up a couple of months ago after a long break and i picking up quite a few customers and don't really want to lose them just yet.
Or should i only do the frame's if asked and bung a few quid on the price

Any what do everyone else do regarding frames

I cant agree that cleaning frames is what is expected when cleaning windows, however yes I do agree that they do need doing periodically ay twice a year, but everytime is unnecesary and time consuming its no wonder your picking up a lot of work as your under selling your service and your customers are keen to get a bargain. I say charge extra for extra work

Think i will start just cleaning the frame a couple of times a year and if anyone says anything i will tell them i will do them monthly but would had to put the price up.

haveing said that a damp wipe is all that is needed sometimes  :D

Always clean the frames. I charge a good price and the customer gets a excellent job. I pick up alot of other window cleaners jobs due to they refuse to clean the frames. There lose my gain. I cant see how you can stop doing the frames now your customers will be pretty peed, i would stick to it the other window cleaner is most probalary concerned how much work you getting and he dont want to clean the frames. Do what you want.

Sean C,

I think your example leaves a lot to be desired, I am sure if you did a survey of customers that asked for there windows to be cleaned, they would expect that meant just the glass the bit they see out of! And they would expect to pay more for the frames to be cleaned. So I think the name `Window Cleaner` is quite appropriate whether you clean the glass, or glass and frames as not all customers are bothered about there frames anyway, so why should they pay for it if they don`t want it, I guess it is each to there own, but I would prefer to give my customers the option and as I said earlier I think it is completely unnecessary to clean them on every visit unless you only call twice a year

Thanks everyone for the replies.
I think this is why i am picking up quite a few customers as i do the frames.
What i am going to do from now on is up my price's a bit to cover the frames also and explain to customers that my price's does include cleaning of the frames.
If they don't want to pay the amount i quote i will then tell them that i can do it a bit cheaper but only the glass will get done.
That way i should keep everyone happy and i keep to my high standards i have set myself.

If you clean the frames the first time ok you may be there a little longer but all of my customers have come by word of mouth and one reason being that the frames get done as well.If the first time they are dirty and need a good clean every visit after only need a wipe and will stay clean thereafter so i would lawyas clean the frames as well
