Not very bright !!
« on: November 07, 2006, 04:09:42 pm »
Just stainguarded my first carpet for a large carpet retailer
(in warehouse) this morning. £50 cash for 30 minutes work, not bad.

3 hours later, I gets a phone call fom retailer...they've only just realised they rolled the wrong carpet out and had me stainguard the wrong carpet !!!
Got to go back tomorrow morning 1st thing to S/G the correct one as its getting laid tommorow.
Do I charge them another £50 quid ? or as a goodwill gesture do it for nowt ? ( Lots of work comin my way, so they say ) ! Or am I dealing with a pair of clowns ?

so are you saying that you should pay for their mistake? after all its your time and money so why not charge them again.
Having said that, it would depend, if the amount of work you actually get from them gives you a steady flow of income then I would say yes , do it for free as a goodwill gesture, but if it is just a once evry Sheffield flood then charge.

did you ask the retailer if the carpet was going to be joined by heat/glue.

having tested quite a few stainguard products, many leave a NOTICEABLE lighter band APPROX 4INCH accross the full width of the join.when joined in this manner.

I'd ask them to pay. Their mistake! Perhaps give them a little discount if they agree to hand out a few of your leaflets.

If it was you that'd sg the wrong carpet they'd expect you to do it for free..

Large carpet retailer paying by cash, sounds a bit odd.

I once had the Manager of a Carpetrite store rush out into the car park and ask me for about 100 business cards so they could use me for all protection work, didn't get one job! :(

What is it with these people? I even had all my leaflets in one of their stores in a display holder, after persuading them. Got one job (on the floor at the back, with the carpet rolled out) then never heard from them again. Even after going in a few times.... ???

Have to agree that paying by cash is weird :o
