Vomit on carpet
« on: November 01, 2006, 10:44:01 am »
I got called to a doctors surgery where someone vomited a lot on the carpet on friday, they cleaned it up and on monday when they came in the smell was horrible, so they called me in to clean it up and get rid of the smell, I gave it a good going over and this morning they phoned me back to say the smell is still there.
any experience on this would be really appriciated.

cheers bruce

Try Prochem Stain Pro as pre spray followed by rinse extraction with Prochem Fibre and Fabric Rinse. You could alsa add 10 - 20 ml per litre of Prochem Odour Neutraliser

What's left is the bacteria in the carpet, which will continue to smell until destroyed.

I use Solubac from Solutions, spray it on after cleaning and leave it to work. May require a couple of treatments but it's always worked for me.

I would use nemesis odour neutraliser

This product eliminates malodours and noxious gases caused by bacteria, mercaptans, amines, sulphides, acids etc. The biocide components effectively penetrate the protective shells of bacteria and destroy them on contact. This component also retards the regrowth of surface bacteria. This product presents no health risks to either humans or animals.

Directions: Dilute 10:1

Can be sprayed or wet fogged. For urine, vomit, faeces, etc it is preferable to extract as much of the contaminant as possible before soaking the area with Odour Neutraliser. Carpets require all surfaces to be treated, including the backing and underlay.

Hi

You could use Sta Kill from Sta Pro

It is a powerful anti bactericide and deodourizer. I have used it in a squat and it is very powerful.

About £4.95 as a trigger spray.

Get from your janitorial or pro supplier

Stapro's Micro Clean is a bacteria that  'eats' protein stains and is effective in removing the residue and organisms responsible for the odour, providing there is no bactericide in the carpet. There is a possible problem of browning or dirt wicking up, but that can obviously be dealt with later.
On large scale decontaminations I tend to use Pallet shrink wrap or even bubble wrap instead of the damp towel/s suggested in the instructions.
