Andy

Trust me, before wfp and H&S came to the fore, most folk worked like that. I remember taking a 6ft double ladder onto sills to do tall windows with extractor fans in them on a city centre office - basement, ground, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th floors.
Mind you, they were wide sills  8)
Quote

Just look at the photo. How did they get up there? H&S is cool as long as you can explain how they got to the window. I don't care about he said this or they did that, This topic is about those photos and as those photos are fake!

BTW Tosh you are a star!

Andy, just accept that these guys got there by climbing out of the window at that level. They didn't climb up a ladder to have someone take it away to work on another window - that's another wee episode I've left behind me.

OR

Just accept that these are fake photos which have been photoshopped to represent the actions of window cleaners in the past, because the originals got lost. Someone posted them here knowing that you'd rise to the bait and show yourself up as a numpty who won't listen to folk who are experienced in their trade.

THEY'RE NOT FAKE PICTURES - THESE WINDOW CLEANERS ARE REAL !!
You're a Scottish window-cleaner? Licensed or not, get yourself along to www.slwcn.org right now !

Like many of the older or more experienced guys, I have done it too in the past.
Most of these windows, if they were the sash type could be done by "sitting out"
You sat on the outside ledge and pulled the window down to your knees. You could then pull the top section down and push the bottom section up, and then you could do the bit you had missed.
With windows that were too tall for this, standing on the sill was the only way you could do it. Doing the bottom panes was the hard bit.
I once worked on a Llandudno hotel that had a nine inch ledge about a couple of feet below the sills. I was 17 at the time, working with an older guy.
When he finished his window he wanted to pass me to get to the next. As I said this ledge was only 9 inches wide, and the only way he could pass me was to hold on to my waist and swing round the outside of me. I was terrified, hanging onto the window frame by my finger tips and having to bare this guys weight as he sqeezed passed.
Now I have no time for lies or liars, what I have told you is the gospel truth.
These practices were common place and you, as a youngster were mocked by your peers if you showed any fear.
The guy who squeezed past me, 4 years later, lay down in front of a train. He died leaving a wife and 8 children.
This took place back in 1959, but the practice still goes on to this day.
I wouldn't do it now, but I have in the past. Dai

It's obvious you have an inferiority complex. You feel the need to constantly say "Look at me i'm so great blah blah." Like I said "JOKE" with a capital J.  :-*

Wow!
When i posted this topic i didnt think it would turn out this way! ::)

That's the sign of a good post!

Anyway, guys, as a member here, I'd prefer not to read the personal comments.  There's other ways of 'arguing' without resorting to blatant name calling.
