Depends on if you want commercial or residential? I think yell is good for commercial, but all the local mags, village news ect are really good and cheap, i have picked up alot of work from these!!!

Is this yell.com or the Yellow Pages. If its the pages then its a waste of money, spend your advertising budget elswhere. Dont know about yell.com

How would you find a window cleaner?

I would ask the people in my street when the window cleaner comes round.

Mine was with yellow pages.   Poor results.

Also the phone directory 118247 that was even worse with no results.

For me im sticking with the local parish mag they have pulled me in more work than anything else.

I just have a free listing on Yell, and have had some responses from it but only 1 off jobs, but still didn't cost me anything to advertise.

Had yellow pages and yell.com for two years got absolutly nothing from it. complete waste of money.

Do regular leaflet drops and line ads in local paper

I use the free add and have ajusted my listed name to read as www.thewindowcleaner.biz this works well for me, don't get regular calls but do pick up some tasty contracts, ie now have 6 blocks of flats on books plus because I am in yellow pages my name also comes up in searches on YELL.COM which would be the place most bussiness would look at first (being a I.T. age)
The secret is not doing as you like but liking what you do

yell pages grt for me paid for itself three years in a row! domestic work you will only truly know if you do it. but be prepared to lose out if you do. and dont pay the first price they give you! if you get work from it and you dont want it sell it on!

The yellow pages for us where a complete waste of time just a few old ladies asking to have there windows cleaned when the advert was for commercial window cleaning services, yell.com was a different story don't know if it was just luck but within the first week had collected 10 times the cost of the links and services, it has died off but at least 5 leads a month...
