WFP on a Water Meter/Merlin Booster Pump
« on: October 13, 2006, 12:49:20 pm »
Hi Guys,

Im just wondering if anyone out there is running their WFP system off a water metered house and if so is it expensive??

Im looking to move soon, but im having to base my search on the fact of whether the house has a water meter fitted which keeps on eliminating my favoured houses  >:(

Regards

Alistair

works out about 27p per 1000 litres drawn, ring up your local water supplier, they will tell you exactly the cost.

best wishes,

That doesnt sound too expensive although im getting through about 600 Litres of processed water a day (through a Merlin) which im guessing means im drawing about 6000 litres

What difference would a booster pump make??

Ohhhh

Ive just checked and United Utilities charge 112.6p per cubic metre (1000 litres)

Does anyone know what ratios I can be expecting from a water pressure of about 30 psi

and what I can expect if I invested in a booster pump

Right Ive just checked the ratios myself and at the moment my waste to product ratio is 3:1

Is anyone aware of the expected ratios with a booster pump fitted to the Merlin

Sair, are you using a merlin? If so what is your tds reading going in? Waste of less than 15% seems fantastic.

As mentioned before call your water company.

POINTS TO REMEMBER:

Its not just the cost of the water its also the proportion they charge for waste. Ours charges just over a £1 per 1000 litres of water with an additional charge if 75% of water used for the waste (again at just ove £1 per 1000 litre) so the total cost for every 1000 litres used is £1.75 plus vat.

And on your Merlin its anything from 1:3 to 1:5 so in our area it could be costing as much a £12 per ever 1000 litres of pure water.

The waste ratio is about the same with a pump, but its quicker & has less TDS.

But as I have said many times before it all depends on the pump, you need about 7 litres per min at 80psi to push a Merlin to its max. NOTE:7 litres per min at 80psi NOT max of 7 litres per min, max80psi

Trevor only 27p per cube where do you live?

no i use a 40x40 with a booster pump average in is about 285-320

out is anywhere between 003-008  which i am more than happy with

they are what we put on all our systems and people are more than happy with results to the point where we seem to be fitting about 2-3 systems a month

Steve,

Surely the water company can only know how much waste Im getting if I tell them.

Think I might just tap my water supply before the meter  ;)

Alistair,

Its based on the water you use, say you use 1000 litres the they asume a percentage of that is returned to them down the drain, say 75%, so the charge the waste out at 750 litres.

And connecting before the meter is a hanging offence.

Oh sorry Steve did I say that out loud  :-X

Yeah I see what you mean, especially if you tell them its a reverse osmosis set up you have.

If I have to tell them anything I'll just say the water is for jet washing, then I thik im right in saying they couldnt charge me sewerage

No, it doesn’t matter what you do or don’t tell them.

They will still charge you sewerage.

The only round it is if you can prove that you don’t put the water back into the system, eg you are a market gardener etc.

Their stand point is "if the water comes through your meter, the you have to dispose of a good percentage of it back down the drain.
