Felt sorry for myself
« on: October 03, 2006, 07:34:43 pm »
I did a window clean on a new customer last week and got talking as you do about what i did before and how long i had been at it.

I have not being saying im new to customers but on this occasion i said i hadnt been at it long, dunno why?????

Well he also asked me if i was busy or not, i dont like to give out info as its personal and you dont know who you are talking to so i said "not too bad" with my sad face on "i'm getting there"

Well when i finished his windows he asked if i could remove a tree growing from his gutter, i then told him i clean gutters as well and priced up the job which i completed today, so a window clean and gutter clean earnt me a nice £78, sorted, all for about 3.5 hours work.

When i knocked to say i had finished we chatted again and he seemed to feel sorry for me, saying that it will probably be hard in the winter due to rain, snow being icy etc etc. It was then he said if i get short of work call him and he'll find me some jobs to do around his house, first off would be to paint his bay window fascia thing. I looked at him in shock and said thanks great, you have my number :-\

I then sat in my van and thought about what he had said to me and started to think he may be right, panic started to set in and i felt sorry for myself as i had given up a extremley well paid job to do this. How was i going to cope? My round isnt as big as i want yet, how will i get through winter???

I drove home on a downer, when i got in Mrs asked what was wrong and i told her, her reply was, "you're not a effing painter, your a window cleaner!"

I then thought oh yeah, actually my round is going in the right direction, when has the weather been that bad you cant ever either catch up or work between bad weather.

Got to give it to Mrs Daily she has the best motivational speak and im now fired up to make this my best months turnover yet!!!!

So my new venture is, Motivational speach by Mrs Daily available on CD-Rom for £5.99 with free P&P!!!!!

If your feeling low give my Mrs a call she'll get you on the road again feeling good for your self!!!!

Andy ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Oooooo that is shiny!!

You will find you will pick up clients all year.
Stick to the windows.
Even if you have only one house in a road if they see you are consistent then that is a good advertisment.
start at different times whilst the round is small.
Try to target when the kids a getting home or about to go to school that way the house holder will not miss you.
Stick at it mate.

The part-time summer boys will be packing up soon.  Even more potential customers !!! :D

What part of Luton/Dunstable are you in?

I lived there for 10 years before moving up to Northants.

I wasnt going to chuck it in its just the way the guy made me feel after speaking to him.
I have over 100 customers now which after 3 months i feel is an achievement.
I might do that starting at different times as may catch neighbours who are normally out until miday etc etc

I live on the Luton and Dunstable borders but clean in Dunstable, easier to get to from where i live. Plus more bigger houses :D

Funny you should say that about painting.
I pressure washed a patio for a chap in spring.  He phoned last week and asked me to pop up to his house.  I went up on saturday afternoon and he wants me to paint his bungalow, well the fascias and windows.  I laughed and said that I'm a window cleaner and I do pressure washing not painting.  I even tried to give him the number of a friend of mine that does painting and decorating.
No good.  I want you to do it if you can as I can trust you.  was his reply. Well.  I didnt know what to charge so I said £15 an hour if he supplies all the paint and brushes.  His chin nearly hit the floor but I explained that I would be fitting him in around all my other work and to get a decorator in would be more .  I didn't really want the job but he agreed to the price and thats.   I have done some painting in me time but it isn't something I want to make a habit of.

Veni, vidi, vino, splatus.

 (I came, I saw, I drank, I fell over...)

THE PROBLEM IS IMAGE SOME PEOPLE ASSUME THAT WINDOW CLEANERS DON'T EARN VERY MUCH, WHICH I HAVE DISCOVERED ISNT THE CASE YEARS AGO I GAVE OUR WINDOW CLEANER A TIP AT XMAS HE SAID THANKS AS HE JUMPED IN TO HIS TOP OF THE RANGE BMW. I THEN DISCOVERED THAT HE HAD 5 MEN WORKING FOR HIM AND EARNED 3 TIMES WHAT I EARNED. NICE WORK IF YOU CAN GET IT.
