BLIMEY
« on: September 27, 2006, 09:01:58 pm »
Busy day today.  Gutters, fascias and windows a plenty.  On my way home I decided to pop into the local learn direct type place and see if they have a w/c.  Lots of glass and I've meaning to pop in for a while now but kept putting it off.
In I stroll with my business card in hand expecting to be told 'thanks but no thanks' but to my suprise the rather fetching young lady behind the desk told me that they dont have a w/c as such but the general odd job man they have about the place does them.  But badly.
She took me for a guided tour of the building and has told me to put my quote in sooner rather than later.
This was unexpected.  I am now in the position where I am unsure what to charge.  They want a quarterly clean inside and out.  The outsides wont take me long  with me pole but the insides are going to be a pain in the arse.  I think I will try  to guestimate how long the job will take and decide on a decent hourly rate and offer them that.

On a high from that, I popped into the local high school about 5 mins down the road and asked to see the care taker.  After a quick natter he too has told me to get a qote in as they were thinking of getting someone to start in the new year.  Being an ex pupil he told me I have a better than good chance of getting the job.  He even pointed me in the direction of what the old w/c used to charge a few years ago.

Both of these jobs are massive compared to anything I have done up until now.  A bit nervous about them if the truth be told.  But, nothing ventured etc.  I will try and post some pictures to show you experts what I am talking about.  Not much of a post but still quite chuffed with the responses I received.  Makes me more positive and confident about approaching businesses for work.

i had the same last week, was cleaning a large rehabilitation place i have been doing for over a year next to a sports centre, perfect wf job and manager runs out and says to come to see her after, which i did, anyhow as i have been really busy lately did not really need the work so quoted high £150 first clean reduced to £100 for regular which turns out to be 8 weekly, got email same day and did on the following sat in just short of 2 hours so well pleased.

simbo,
certainly cheers you up to have days like that instead of being kocked back all the time.
On your commercial jobs do you do insides?  Been asked to put a price together for the local Tescos and they want insides doing aswell.   A bit worried about sqeegee ing the insides due to the mess.  Any hints or tips?  Whats the best way to price up walls of glass?  I have a per window rate which works ok but when you are faced with a wall of glass I get a bit stuck.  I cant make me mind up, price per wall or by the amount of glass per wall.
Any amount of advice will be greatly received.
About the van, cheers the system needs tweeking but it seems to be working ok at the moment.  I will have to get a bigger tank though.

Here are some pics of the learn direct place I mentioned.  Still pondering what price to put in so any input would be a great help.  I have a figure in mind but I  am curious as to what you professionals would go for.  Insides and out on a quarterly basis.
MAny thanks in advance

I haven't actually done much alrge commercial work, but based on the images you have posted, I would guesstimate, about £75 for a standard clean. Therefore, I would price it personally £100 outside, £200 inside, therefore £300 for whole job. Does depend on access inside to those high windows though. (Don't break it down for them, just give them the whole price)

I'm sure some others who do this type of work could give you a more accurate quote.

Cheers Simbo.
I was toying with a figure in the £250 region.  So Thanks for your imput.
My quote has been typed up and I will be handing it in tomorrow and will be keeping my fingers crossed.
Access to the high windows is all ok as they have like a raised floor inside.
Will let you know if I hear anything.
