The Best Advertising
« on: August 23, 2006, 11:32:41 pm »
We spend an enormous amount on advertising.
I loathe the reps - I hate the thought of having to generate the cash flow to supplement these parasites.

I now refuse to see any YP or Tomson reps and just repeat our ad's over the phone.

The rep's are all brassy chavy birds - fake sun tans - polished nails - big boobs - cheesy grins -big brass earings -  skirt up the arse - absolutely no idea of business or marketing.
Basically old slapper's who's first and second comment is ........

Q: "do you get much work ? is the directory working for you ?"
A: Miss why the f*** would I be asking you be back here if it didn't.

Q "Why don't you let me design a new add for you with colour - I've got a few ideas"
A: Why would anyone let a brainless tart like you f*** up £10K's worth of my adverts ?

If you recognise the type - if it's not the rep then it's your old woman  ;D ;D ;D ;D

If you can dream - and not make dreams your master !!

the YP rep visited me last week and showed me all the facts & figures about how Y/P is vital for my business ::)

I said I haven't decided what I'm doing next year and made an appointment with him in Oct to finalise my advert, he rang me today saying he's sorted out my ad and can he meet me next week to sort out the paperwork >:( >:(

its a half page ad for £2600 +vat!!

I hope he's put  a lot of work into it because I'm going to tell him I ain't bothering with Y/P next year ;D ;D

They have had my complaint about Positioning Policy for over two weeks now.

Seems a long time to me , think they are trying to find a way out of my complaint.

They are like a bad smell, hang around for a while and then disappear.

re.  £25 to every £1 ROI, its different over all catagories, thats the average across all industies advertising, some catagories/industries average ROI may be alot less than that.

I will get slated for this I am sure but nothing new and please keep the e-mails down a bit. Anyway.... I

think that no form of "paper" advertising works to the extent that we would want it too. If it did then

we would all be happy and not have to post as much as we do. Wouldnt it be nice to have as much

work as we want without the paper trail. I have verbally advertised what it is that I do to the people I

want to hear what I have to say. I meet designers, architects, carpet suppliers, Oriental rug people and

anyone else I could think of who might want my services. They have kept me in business for the last

13 years so by now I know it has been and still is the best way to advertise. I have found this way that

I get 100% of the clients that phone me. Best part is they dont ask or need to know the prices as they

just want to know when it is I can clean. Most know that I go after the higher end of the market. These

higher end people would not pay any attention to yellow pages, newspapers or fliers so why would

you want to advertise that way. If you are happy doing what it is that you do then thats fine but if you

want a higher ticket then try the verbal route. It does work and for those who I have introduced to

designers in their area are indeed increasing their tickets and not having to advertise. Each to their

own and thats fine but for me and mine I feel verbally is best. Ian and a few others know what I am

like and if I can convince them that I am right at least for me then it cant all be bad. If you try it I am

sure it will work for you. Best, Dave.

Morning,

For once I agree with you!

I find the best form of advertising is recommendation, we also target commercial properties on a face to face basis.  90% of the time if you send them a letter or a flyer it will go in the bin, however if they meet you face to face you stand a much better chance of getting the work.

We are in YP and the BT Phonebook, costs us £120/month and if we had a 25:1 return each month I would be a very happy man.

ps Liahona - why has your reply got line spaces everywhere, are you doing carriage return at the end of each line when you are typing, as it makes it very difficult to read?

I also agree with Dave

My husband has been reducing his workload for the past 3 years and currently doing very little, while I take out our son for training and experience.

Our phone just keeps ringing, but this is after twenty years of building a reputation and delivering quality and perceived, value for money.

We used y/p and local newspapers some 5-6 years ago, to stimulate volume, when employing others and got a high volume of lower priced work, which we regarded as fine, but the better and higher paid work comes from our regulars and their referrals.

When setting up, we are always chatty and friendly.

Angie

Lionheart, I cant win mate. People were saying that they couldnt read my posts in this format and suggested I should put a gap between the lines. Someone then told me how too and so I did. Maybe I should alternate. Anyway, glad you agree with me. But only once in all my posts???? Oh well if nothing else I am controvercial and get people to think. Best, Dave.
