Hi There,

I have a member of staff that has spilt bleach on a carpet.  Does any one know if there is anything that can be done or will I need to replace the carpet??

Any help or advise is appreciated.

Get a carpet fitter in to replace bleach part, needs cutting out and a new piece heatbonded or hand sewn in. Assuming that you have a spare piece.

Failing that no carpet cleaner can get bleach out. Carpets needs replacing.

How big is it? if its only small it may be able to be re-tufted. This is done by removing the damaged fibres and stitching or glueing new ones taken from either a spare peice of carpet or from around the perimeter.
Servicemaster usually offer this service or if you ask on here there may be someone in your area suitably qualified.

Depending on fibre type it may be possible to spot dye the colour back in. Specialist job and prhaps more expensive, but if the carpet is worth it the best option.
Re-tufting is the better option if only a small area.

Thanks to everyone that replied.   It's only a small area and they have a spare piece of carpet,  have arranged for a carpet fitter to take a look.

Pah! Don't listen to these amateurs. All professional carpet cleaners (like me,) carry a set of these around:



They're great for bleach patches on plain carpets and if you are artistic you can even draw the pattern back in on fancy Wiltons.

I thought carpet fitters used them for hidding imperfections in new carpets.


Apart from Chemspec who else sells dye kits.

I was told to use dylon but I read on here a few months back its not the right product to use.

Taking a new interest as I have been reading about colour repair .Someone said 25% of carpets in America have bleach marks.  Seams a bit high.

Ive said it before and i'll say it again........ retufting is the best thing for small bleach spots fAg burns etc.
