Right Craig the jute is only a problem if you soak the carpet and its ringing wet for days. Then you will succumb to browning and dye wicking! (Am sure youve heard of this?) Make sure the carpet is properly attached to grippers(smoothedge) and clean it using what you normally use. You may (if you feel it requires it) use a woolsafe approved chemical however i have built up over the years a selection that will work on most. Beware tho' -wool stinks like a wet dog!! So you would be advised to take either a deodouriser or an intank scent. Just take your time and enjoy it. It goes without saying to pre-test for colour fastness and any adverse fibre effects and keep in the van a fibre rinse to de-alkaline if needs be? If its very knotty and hard to touch tho' steer clears as its seagrass and would shrink three inches if ya spit on it!! hope this helps?  ;)

Your a star! Damian, Many thanks for that, my concern is shrinkage, i cleaned a carpet about 2 years ago, which looks very similar, with jute again running through the face, and it shrunk about 0.5" from grippers, and i used texatherm system so kept moisture to a minimum, :-[

Craig you say jute running thro' the surface? To be honest it sounds very much like seagrass to me? Most wool berbers are of a traditionally built nature of pile and backing bonded to the underside. Many miles from the ancestry of the ber-ber tribes that used to hand knit rugs. Most berbers are fine and i have never encountered a problem at all. However seagrass is the devils own work and as far as i see cannot be cleaned satisfactory by any method! Personally i would need to see it and touch it to know if its safe to clean? Your call and your credit details if it goes Pete Tongue im afraid but to me it sounds wary? Has the custy got any other quotes? If so for what method of cleaning said item?  ???
