just a quick hello to everyone here, im in the process of starting in the window cleaning game for the first time.So i dont really have a great deal of knowledge, i hope thats were you guys come in. I work for the Police at the present, but that also gives me a lot of free time{ too much ,according to her indoors !}.I am looking to generate an income per month of around 250-300quid, can anyone of you kind pro,s give me an idea of how much work i would need for that amount, number of properties etc !!. i live near to Burnley, and im fairly confident there is the work out there.Grafting and hard work isn,t a problem as i used to work on building sites for 6 years.come to think of it i would rather be outside anyday, than stuck in an office 9-5..........anyway, hope you can help me out as im going to be posting a fair bit on here i reckon !!!
cheers, and kind regards

income will depend on how many houses you do and cost, you could do 100 houses at £3 a go but you would be working you donkey off doing that, if you target bigger houses you can do less houses for the same amount.
Price can depend on the area you live in ask friends/family to see how much there cleaners charge to give yourself and idea and the kind of houses you need to target.
It can be a numbers game for customers so the more you speak to eventually they will come

Good luck
Andy

Are you buying a round or getting your own work?

thats the six million dollar question !! im not sure what would be the best route...i fancy just starting from scratch and finding new customers, but on the other hand buying a small established round may be the way !!!
im open for suggestions,i live in a small town ,surrounded by other small towns and villages, a lot of terraced property but also some fair sized { and very expensive} detached houses. hope you can point me in the right direction,as i said ,i just need a small round to start off with. :)
cheers, and kind regards

Hi John,

Welcome to the forum, hope you find everyone on here helpful and able to answer all your questions.

Your area will determine how many houses you will require to acheive this income. If you target monthly cleans obviously you will require less than if your round is including 2 x monthly customers.

With a requirement of £250/£300 per month I personally would canvass my own work rather than try to buy work. Only because the amount you need shouldn't take too much canvassing.

just one point, will the fact that you are working for the police and now targeting locals for work perhaps present a conflict of interest? Not sure what you're involvement is with the Police but may be worth considering?

Good luck and best wishes,

Hi trev
I dont work locally as an officer so its not a problem, but i thought finding my own work would be the best bet. Is there any advice regarding approaching customers for work, best things to say,and not step on any w/c toes etc...
thanks again for the advice.
cheers, and kind regards

There is so much people can say to help you, just search the postings and you will find all the information you need.

Basically, get some leaflets/cards printed offering your window cleaning services.

I personally prefer door to door canvassing, I find the results are better.

I would just say to people at the door that you are expanding into the area and wondered if they needed a window cleaner?

If they already have one just leave your card incase they ever get let down, otherwise try to sign them up.

Pricing will depend on your area but set yourself an hourly rate and charge against that. Most window cleaners work around £25 per hour.

If you need specific advice just post on here and I am sure everyone will help you out.

Best of luck,

JV - perhaps it would be worth you considering EverClean Self Cleaning Window Treatments. Why not have a look at www.dur-a-shield.co.uk and see what is coming.
Kind regards - Martin.
