porty over truckmount?
« on: August 17, 2006, 07:53:56 pm »
Hi all, today have had a contract job on in a city near me. The job was for supplying and fitting miles of new carpet tiles and cleaning ten large office carpets. Now we all know the arguments between portys and t/m's however it was slap bang in the centre of the city with no parking whatsoever! One van gotta ticket for calling warden a little hitler! So nearest parking was quarter of a mile away. Now i understand how "great" t/m's are supposed to be but how do ya get around this problem?  :-\  :-\                                                 Regards Damian.

Nice thought Steve however the carpets were SOO bad that im afraid only HWE would touch them!! Personally i put two portys on it. The two guys i had fitting tiles were amazed at the results as they thought i would end up replacing the old carpets with tiles aswell.  ::)

I have had some excellent results on trashed carpet tiles using D/f.Nursery I done recently, last guy said they would need replacing after he cleaned them using hwe as a lot of the marks he was unable to remove I now have a list of 18 mothers wanting their carpets cleaned by me 8)

You would be surprised at the results from a portable if  you pre vac- pre spot / prespray / Agitate before you extract out.

Steve maybe the other guy was a crap carpet cleaner and only intrested in the money, how does the dry fusion machine work ? they have a depo near us (leyland) and i looked at there machines before buying Prochem's as dry fusion wouldnt sell me a machine ? (protecting there market i think)

Cheers Steve, not entirely convinced mind? maybe ill give it a go at some point when i get time? must say tho-the job wasnt to clean tiles it was various carpets and the results were superb when finished!!  :o there were maybe twenty guys milling around on various jobs and they all went to have a peak as word went round that a black carpet was actually turqouise underneath and it felt better to walk on as the pile was fully lifted to its former state!! really dont think dryfusion would have touched it! it needed high pressure hot water and a good scrubbing! downside was i didnt put a bucket boy on site and was a long corridor to tap and waste empty! boys were not pleased with me  ::)

If you want to see and try for yourself not only the Dry Fusion but various other LM and VLM systems in a real world working environment, then come along to the "Hands On Experience"  just off the M54 near Wolverhamton on Monday 18th September.  It will be owner/operators using their own equipment so there will not be any "selling" involved from manufacturers.

There's more about it here: http://www.ncca.co.uk/NCCA_News.htm#NCCA_Hands_On_Experience

I hope to be able to put a few more names to faces on the day.  I'll be the one with the balding head and a few six packs around his waist :(

Safe and happy cleaning :)

hello boys all i use is porty here and have done some real shocker carpets commercial and as long as u pre spray before hwe and dont go to fast i allways get great results.if maybe heavy traffic areas bad just scrup them and comes up a treat.as long as u have a good porty with at least 400psi and cood chems u will get good results.most ppl dont give a  if it takes a lil longer to dry its the results that counts.most comm jobs have av carpets amyway with mainly tiles or poly and they dry real fast

its simple for TM users,  take the porty out of the shed,  go do the job !

oh then stick it back in the shed were it belongs! or a skip which evers closest really.

I pass them onto a friend who uses a portable, because I'm not desperate for work I can chose what I do, and I chose not to lug buckets about.

there are lots of 'what if.....' questions with truckmounts & portables

what if there's no electric

what if there's no water supply

what if you've got a bad back and can't lift it up 10flights of stairs ;)

ADAPT....IMPROVISE....OVERCOME!!!

Didnt need to lift the machines and gear up ten flights of stairs mike-lift worked perfectly! plus i also choose what work i take on however when there are lots of tiles to supply and fit aswell then the job was too good to turn down-not that i ever would!  ;)  ;D                                                                   Damian.

Try contacting your local authority with responsiblity for parking ( it's either police or council) and inform them that due to contamination you will be removing waste from said building and need access to "Vital Health and Safety equipment" during this time and also the vehicle will be carring hazardous waste.

So you need a permit/approval  to park on lines and would they like you put up a exclusion zone arond the vehicle /  or / ( this being work for them) would they like to put cones and  tape out in the morning and await your arrival?

Cue; departmental flap- ( THE TRICK IS TO GET THIER NAME) and a usually they say "WE'LL INFORM THE PARKING OFFICERS"

Done this maybe 10 times, have the local ( to me) department numbers on my phone, it's how you phrase it to them really.

By the time you have the tiket it's too late but if  they write a ticket on a van that has a sign saying "MIKE SMITH AT TRAFFIC CONTROLL HAS GIVEN PERMISSION FOR THIS VEHICLE TO PARK HERE TO REMOVE WASTE" you can bet he'll think twice which is once more than normal

And if you do get a tickect you can cause a hell of a Sh*t storm later, as no authority can denie you acces to your HSE !

Failing that aim you pump out at the parking hitler and let him have it!

mmm, not sure they'll except responsibility for your HSE at work.

what about road safety, as your parked on doubles that may be more dangerous.

i do know that road workers, contracters, only have to give authorities NOTICE to dig up roads where ever that need be and NOT seek permision, maybe somthing simular might apply for essential building maintence, which we could maybe squeeze into that catagory

Don't you need a licence (££££s)  to transport "hazardous waste"....?

They are'nt responsible, but at the same time cannot deine you your rights.

and as for double yellows, your missing the point, which is to leave the burden of responsiblity with the authority( if your presence require the street to be closed too traffic)  that's tnow their problem

But  I would recomend using a non sign writen van/ or a whitewashed van  in that case!

Try and rember their only one form to ticket you and 20 to allow you to do what you just told them, I even have a email address that when working in city centre we send over a risk assetment ( you should have one)  it works for me!

rember it not the spanish inquistion I'm just trying to pass on some infomation
