Need a 45 Ft pole
« on: August 11, 2006, 08:29:11 pm »
Have just picked up some new 4th floor work and need a decent 45 footer.

I've ruled out Tucker(too bendy at that height), Powerpole(Too heavy), UngerPole(Dont like design), Glass fibre(Too heavy) and Carbon fibre(Not sure but probably too much girth and abit heavy).

So its down to Facelift, Ergolite or Ecolite. I think that covers them all.

Which do you think?

i use facelift brilliant pole built by a ( brother ) phone facelift and ask for danny carbon or gf you can add and take away sections on them so if you buy a 56ft pole you can use it as an 18ft as well

hope this helps

I do plenty of apartments at that height with a Tucker Pole .It only gets bendy when you have it up at 80 feet not 45 ?

How do you find the clamps on the facelift poles?  I've heard stories of them breaking rather too easily.  I wouldn't set much store on who built them either.  Everyone is capable of building something well or badly whatever their beliefs or ethics. That's not to say that the poles aren't any good as I've never tried them.  So have you had any trouble with the clamps breaking or have I been misinformed?  I had considered buying one until I heard about the clamps but I'm hesitant now.

Thanks Gary

I'll give Danny a ring. Do you think its better than Ergolite? And I how are the clamps? Have you had any problems?

Re Tucker Poles. When I used my friends 45 footer I did find it to bendy.

from what i understand the tucker is not that bendy at 45 .

the facelift 44 is not a bad pole i havnt heard about the clamps breaking, and i have to agree that ethics or beliefs doesnt mean that a pole is better than a another , i would not recomend the face lift at 56 it had to much whip for my likeing i sent it back. the 44 is a very nice pole though

the ergo lite is similar

SW is the short ergoliteyou have  made of the same 8ft sections as the larger lightened carbon fibre poles. If they are only 6fters then they would be bendier ?

Thanks, its a minefield out there and "weighing" up one pole over another aint at all easy. You wouldnt think 2ft makes much diff but over 4 sections its an extra 8 ft or one joint less, which ever way you look at it. Critice point to 8ft being difficult to use but you get used to it and carrying a small pole for doing the bottoms. Because of the angle you use it at you can reach the joint locks.
Even if you suppose that you dont want any waggle in the pole and want a straight rod,  some people actually like a bit of waggle and give.
However weight wise and for stiffness, I naturally think the fishing poles are the new kid on the block.

My own preference is for a maximum of 6 foot sections.  There is usually a better chance of remaining rigid in use (as I prefer) but also, 8 foot sections would not fit in my van whereas 6 foot does.

I may well give him a ring.  How long have you been using the facelift pole now please Gary?  Just trying to get some idea on durability.

hi siner
i have only had the pole for about 3 months and only need to use it for a full day per month the rest of my work i only need my 18ft extender pole.

my only fault with the pole well there are 2
1st the top section is bendy but i am used to that and most of the time i dont extend that peice which makes it very rigid and with the pole being so light it doesnt cause any problems

2nd the pole isnt smooth which is brilliant for grip but if like me you rub the pole up and down gutters over cnservatories it grates on them.

they are the only 2 downsides there are with the pole but there are many plus points
the weight being 1 and being able to add and take sections away.

i hope this helps

Siner indeed.  Nice Freudian slip there Gary  ;D  .  It's OK.  I do have a sense of humour.  Thank you for your openness about the pole.  It looks like it has only had three days actual usage so it would be a bit premature to have any probems with it as yet.
I am seeking another pole for the Winter because although I am happy with my other poles, they are made of aluminium and can get very cold on those frostier days.  I dislike working with gloves on.  There is no rush for me to go out there and get another pole as yet because I don't anticipate any cold weather issues till November at the earliest anyway.  However, I do want to keep open-minded about which one to go for when the time comes so I need to be aware of the strengths and weaknesses of the different types.  I do feel that a fairly rigid pole would be the way to go and to have sections no longer than 6 foot (to fit inside the van as well as for rigidity).  Bendy poles are OK if there are no windows to push closed.
So basically what I will probably require are:-
1) 6 feet maximum section length.
2) Sufficient rigidity to push windows closed.
3) Reliable clamps.
4) Jets that don't use excessive water (such as the standard Ionics jets).
5) Reasonably light.
6) One that doesn't start slipping and sliding through the clamps too soon.
7) Pole hose to be inside the pole.
8) Reasonably priced.
9) A brush head that can be turned for awkward angled windows.

It may be that what I want isn't possible or that I'm being too picky but no harm looking.  Looks like I've hijacked this thread a bit.  It wasn't my intention.  Ah well.  I'm not the first and won't be the last.   :)

hi shiner sorry about the slip you wont believe this but it was an accident but after reading your reply i couldnt stop laughing glad you could see the funny side.

1 it does come in 6ft lenghts

2 the first section is bendy but the pole is so light that if you skip the first section it is a very rigid pole

3 like you said i have only used it for abot 3-4 days but my mate has been using his every day for months with no problems

4 i had a plastic neck put on mine instead of the gooseneck that comes with the pole because i use a selection of brushes and want to change them quickly

5 very light the 18ft version is lighter than the extender and a friend of mine has got a 24ft pole from another supplier and it is much heavier and thicker in diameter than my 30ft

6 because the pole isnt smooth the clamps grip brilliant and the tightener for the clamps doesnt need a screwdriver you can do it with your fingers

7the pole hose is inside the pole

the pole isnt cheap but it isnt made cheap either i am not biased if there was something wrong with the pole i would tell you like i said earlier about the 2 things that i dont like about it but it is a genuinly good pole ( not saying that there arnet better poles out there its just that i havent tried them)

hope this helps in some way

thanx

Gary

I wont be changing the brushhead so do you think I should stick with the gooseneck if I go for the Facelift?
