Backpack for sale on ebay????
« on: August 09, 2006, 06:52:50 pm »
Saw this on ebay and I'm not too sure about It  ???

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=170016478517

I spoke to the guy on the phone and I asked him If it was the american Imports and he replied "no, there from this country" I don't know what to think?

He has more of them for sale. He will sell them for £200 inc p+p.

What do you think?

It looks pretty good to me, but you can get them for £170 in total from ebay in the US.

Does he offer any warranty?  Would you trust him if he said he did?  If not; you may as well buy from the US.

I forgot to ask him If It came with a warranty :-[

I know cleantech do one for £206 inc vat as I was speaking to justin about one yesterday.

I don't know If I would trust this guy? At least with cleantech, the after sales Is second to none and If there's a problem they are allways happy to help.

Maybe it's worth paying the extra £30-£40 quid!!!!

If you purchase one from America and anything goes wrong with It your warranty counts for nothing!!

I was told this by someone who works In trading standards.

I don't have a clue ??? just passing on what I was told.

I bought mine from Williamson Pumps - a year ago next month - it's had some hammer, but is still going strong.

I've had to replace the battery (£5.00 from Motorworld; it's the same battery used by electric scooters) and had to patch a hole with some resin based putty (£5.00 from B & Q); other than that no problems.

It's a robust bit of kit.  I use it constantly; every day I work, but I have a spare one just in case.

It's great if you're on a budget, or just want to dip your toe into the WFP world.  My next major purchase will be a van with a WFP system; but I bet I still use my backpack on much of my residential round.

It also costs a fraction of the price of a Freedom Trolley, is much much lighter; therefore more versitile and allows you to work comfortably out of a standard car.

My point is, since it's a well made bit of kit, it may be worth purchasing the cheaper US Ebay backpack at £170, rather than paying £270, which some suppliers are charging; mentioning no names.

PS.

The hole originated from a tiny crack I made when I dropped the backpack.  I tried to fix it by heating up a knife, till it was red hot and smoothing over the crack.

This didn't work and made a hole; which was a lot worse.

So I put this resin based putty on it and it's been fine since.

I have been using WFP for over 5 years now on most of my commercial contracts.

I also have a large domestic client base and decided to give WFP a trial on part of that. I agree with Tosh to a point. Being a mean old bu++er I looked for the cheapest way to do this and seeing as I already had more water than I know what to do with I got a couple of back-packs and sent my lads off in their Astra vans to attack the householders. It certainly proved to me that WFP on domestic was the way to go and it cost next to nothing so I was very happy with the concept. The lads were safer and a bit faster but they got fed-up having to constantly refill the backpacks from the containers they already carried. I did my homework and got 2 of the Freedom trollies 3 months ago. I dont want to get into any debate about what kit is best. Each have their own place. All I can say is that I am very pleased with the Freedom trollies. They are the Mk2 I suppose you would call it versions and we dont find them cumbersome at all. I have progressed to fitting out each van with a tank as well which we plug the trollies into when a hosereel would be better to use so my lads love me now.. I think.

Productivity is way up on pre WFP on the houses so the lads earn more and I can afford jam on my bread at night now.

I do agree that the back pack would be far better suited to anyone working out of a car with a boot though. My back packs cost me £199.00 each delivered from a UK supplier complete with warranty and already converted for use with WFP. I think I can still get that deal. If anyone is interested I can check if it's still available.
